This thread will be so much fun to follow next year. We'll have a legitimate reason to talk about potential players through the entire 1st round.

If the Sens do as poorly as thinks appear, we could be looking at picks in the...

~5
~15
~45
~65
~75

Spots in the first 3 rounds. 5 Players selected in the first 75 picks and 2 in the first 20.

I probably should have said Turcotte, especially since I'll see him quite a bit this year. My wife bought me a 10 game pack for the USNTDP.

But.. He has the same last name as my ex wifes new married name lol. Stupid ass reason, but it makes me cringe to think of it on an Avs jersey.

Newhook and Kakko are easy choices though.

Voted Newhook, but I predict that Bjornfot is going to shoot up the rankings by draft day.

@S E P H I remember you had an early 2019 list in the last thread somewhere, could you post that to get the discussion rolling?

Well, we had legitimate reasons to talk about top end players when we sucking as well! This time though, we can actually cheer for the Avs to win and still scout the top 5-8 players for this draft - it's going to feel so weird, lol.

For the people who don't really follow the USHL, this is (IMO) the strongest USNTDP draft class I've ever seen. Jack Hughes, Matthew Boldy, John Beecher, Cole Caufield, Spencer Knight, Case McCarthy, Alex Turcotte, Alex Vlasic, Marshall Warren, Cam York, and Trevor Zegras could all be 1st rounders by June. That also doesn't include Michael Gildon and Danny Weight (Doug's son) who might potentially have 1st round talent.

Also he's not on the U17/18 team, but Ben Brickman is another player to watch for coming out of America - I hear he has shades of Zach Werenski and Shayne Gostibehere.

- Vasili Podkolzin should be in the top 10 in June.
- Robert Mastrosimone is probably the biggest wildcard who easily has the potential to sneak into the top 5 in June.

What are the chances Cole Caufield can translate his scoring ability to the next level? Plays on a line with Hughes which has to help his points output, but he’s also one of the smallest potential net front presences I think I’ve ever seen.

Also, if either of our firsts are later firsts, I’m very much down with drafting Knight. First round goalie talents don’t come around all that often, and it would fill a huge hole for this team’s prospect pool and future.

I voted for Dach. Big fast 2 way C who plays a real aggressive game

I also like Matthew Robertson.

I'm a big fan of Krebs as well, he's a hell of a playmaker despite being on a poor team talent wise for guys to pass to.

Kaapo Kakko 'cause reasons.

Did the lottery sim, got 3rd and 16th. Using SEPHs list, that gives us Newhook and Grewe. But I would take Cozens over Grewe.

Also would be a fan of acquiring another 1st to draft Knight. Or if we do well enough to drop to ~20 or later.

You have typo regarding Wiljami Myllylä's team.
Wiljami Myllylä isn't Hermes player anymore.
IFK Helsinki liiga team signed him 3 yrs liiga contract this past spring.

Holy ****, I've been insanely impressed by Philip Broberg at eliteprospects.com at the Hlinka Tournment. Broberg is built like a freckin tank, but has the mobility you want for a modern defender. He can absolutely be in the top 5 by season's end from all the strengths I see in his game. And if not, he can easily be the first defender taken. Shades of John Carlson in his game.

I also like what I am seeing in Yaroslav Askarov at eliteprospects.com game as well. Someone to watch out for in the goaler department for @Gigantor The Goalie

Kakko is my #1 want for this year

Cajkovic is going to play for Saint John, Alistrov for Edmonton, Knyazev for Chicoutimi, Protas for Prince Albert

Kakko here also, really looking forward seeing him playing in the liiga and see what he can do playing with men. At the moment I hope we got 2nd overall pick and take Kakko.

Man what a tournament Podkolzin just had at the Hlinka tournament. Seems every goal he scored was a not just a beauty of a goal but a goal that showed off a different skill set that he has. From using his speed to create space to using his hands in tight, to using his frame and body for good positioning, to good edgework and board play.

Seems to have a really, really good skillset. I doubt he makes a push for the Top 5 but it's still early and who knows. Certainly looks like the talent could exist to go Top 5.

there are a bunch of great centers in the top 10. I'm just happy to have the pick. hoping for a center. If Jost steps up this year, I would probably be hoping for a winger and Kakko would be the obvious first choice.
