Ah hf oil. Oilers win and last three pages of the pgt are about a player who didn't even dress for the game.
It's expected at this point. The Oiler fan communities on facebook are pretty much the same. Right after the game everyone feels great but then they feel a need to bring themselves back what they believe to be reality and that reality often revolves around our team or players being horrible because we've missed the playoffs for 10 years.
I don't blame them. I feel the same way, but the effort level of the majority of the players is much more consistent in a good way this year so I don't feel so bad. It's much easier to cheer for hard working losers than it is to cheer for lazy losers.
On the first or second page of the thread someone mentioned that Hopkins and Eberle played horrible during regulation and at first I was going to criticize that person for criticizing the player who got the game winning goal... but if he'd played better during regulation we wouldn't have let so many shots on net, we would have more offensive scoring opportunities and we might have been able to win in regulation.
I'm kind of scared of this 3 on 3. If Hopkins is playing well he's a good option. Same with Eberle, but with the two of them slumping the only forwards I feel we can put out there all the time are Pouliot and Hall because they can both skate really well and I feel that by next season we'll see a different trend in UFA signings so that teams can make sure that they have a few OT specialists.... doesn't sound very cap friendly, does it?
A few years ago Jussi Jokenin seemed to only be on his team to play in the shootout, which is not the least bit cost effective capwise.
Now we're looking at the prospect of signing players for their speed just for OT. Betman sure knows how to stink things up.
