Its not hindsight at all, there was lots of talk that the Oilers might select Murray at #1 because its what they needed. What is hindsight is mentioning the injury of Murray, and how can you prevent injury exactly.

I bet Columbus would not trade Murray for Yakupov today, even with the injuries Murray has had, and with Yakupov sliding down the ice leading the team in goals at 30% shooting percentage.

I know, I guess what I'm saying is it would have taken a some big o' brass balls to walk up to the podium and take a player you know isn't ready for the NHL right now and is going to spend his next year in the WHL 1st OV in the NHL draft.

That simply doesn't happen.

If we passed on Yak at 2012, hf oil would have passed out in rage considering he was the consensus #1 going in to the draft.

Would have been interesting.

It's possible that Murray would have developed into a top pairing D without injury here, and Yakupov would have developed into a 25-30 goal scorer with Columbus.

Interesting what if for sure.

But he was in attendance, and his mom was too, and he was wearing a black jacket, and black toque, and had it on crooked and He looked like he road in on a Harley, so naturally evoked bad corsi mojo..

But to his credit he wasn't seen eating popcorn or cookies. ;)

After this summer I'm surprised no one has photoshopped him into a cookie monster.

Earlier someone commented on Nilsson still being a RFA at the end of this season but does anyone know what class RFA he will be? At $1 million cap hit, is he below the league average putting him in another category? Early to be talking about resigning / extending I know, but curious what other factors are in play.

Not sure why its a big problem if a first overall spends another year in junior, its exactly what should have happened with RNH.

I think Modano played another year in junior, probably others as well.

Yeah, I'm sure you were saying that as he was putting up near ppg numbers as a rookie. :shakehead

Ah hf oil. Oilers win and last three pages of the pgt are about a player who didn't even dress for the game.

He was nowhere ready physically, points or no points. I'm sure Mike Modano could have put up points in his first year as well.

If we would have had any kind of team at all, there is now way they would have kept him up and even Renney did not want to keep him up, naturally overruled by Lowe and company. Have to sell the hope and tickets.

He hasn't been rocked yet in the NHL. We'll see if he keeps dangling to the net after he runs into a few brick walls.
Unfortunately, I do have to agree that he is always noticeable out there.

I thought I saw him get levelled VS Vancouver. He got right up and didn't miss a shift, but it was a massive hit.

Sekera was great tonight, Hemsky burned him pretty bad once, but he made a lot of smart plays or subtle little moves particularly in the offensive zone to keep plays alive.

Fayne did not show up to play tonight, if he gets benched next game and I assume he will it is well deserved, but I really hope that Davidson is ready to play, I don't want to see Ference in the line-up.

I'm sure there is a game I'm forgetting, but this seemed like the best goaltending performance we've gotten since Scrivens stonewalled the Sharks in a 50+ save effort.

Seeing Nurse and Gryba get called for big clean hits in back to back games, especially when we don't play physical enough in general is incredibly frustrating.

It's expected at this point. The Oiler fan communities on facebook are pretty much the same. Right after the game everyone feels great but then they feel a need to bring themselves back what they believe to be reality and that reality often revolves around our team or players being horrible because we've missed the playoffs for 10 years.

I don't blame them. I feel the same way, but the effort level of the majority of the players is much more consistent in a good way this year so I don't feel so bad. It's much easier to cheer for hard working losers than it is to cheer for lazy losers.

On the first or second page of the thread someone mentioned that Hopkins and Eberle played horrible during regulation and at first I was going to criticize that person for criticizing the player who got the game winning goal... but if he'd played better during regulation we wouldn't have let so many shots on net, we would have more offensive scoring opportunities and we might have been able to win in regulation.

I'm kind of scared of this 3 on 3. If Hopkins is playing well he's a good option. Same with Eberle, but with the two of them slumping the only forwards I feel we can put out there all the time are Pouliot and Hall because they can both skate really well and I feel that by next season we'll see a different trend in UFA signings so that teams can make sure that they have a few OT specialists.... doesn't sound very cap friendly, does it?

A few years ago Jussi Jokenin seemed to only be on his team to play in the shootout, which is not the least bit cost effective capwise.

Now we're looking at the prospect of signing players for their speed just for OT. Betman sure knows how to stink things up.

Smart player. So few players seem to think the game through and what things are more important to do in 3 on 3. Actually not all goalies are even realizing the importance of maintaining possession and keeping puck moving on 3 on 3. It should be a no brainer, but isn't.

Nillson was very good tonight.

Just gonna say Kudo's for looking at some of the positive sides of Nilsson lately. IMHO, this guy is coming across as the real deal. We just might have ourselves a starter and an awesome backup. I'm really surprised and impressed at what Nilsson has done this far. Haven't seen that in a while.

This coming from someone who didn;t watch tonight's game mind you.

Best game of the season for Nilsson tonight. Stole a game the Oilers had no business winning.

Dallas is a pleasure to watch...stretch passes a plenty...speed to burn and very strong along the wall. They absolutely dominated the possession time in this game.

The Oilers were completely outclassed by an infinitely better team but still managed a win thanks to Nilsson and the hockey gods.

Oh, I don't disagree with that. And McCheerio probably has it right when he says that expectations on Yak are unrealistic.

None of that takes away from the way Eberle has crushed his draft position and pretty much everyone in the draft class.

Yak fans on this site (not McCheerio or you) chose to make it an Eberle vs Yakupov thing. They should have to live with the realities of that comparison.

 Are "Yak fans" the ones in this thread with fifty ****ing posts comparing the players? Its not Yakupov's fault that Eberle is playing like ****. Or that Sam Gagner sucks.
