can you imagine if they traded their picks for proven stars and maybe this tanking would have been worth it? both managements are at fault for this especially with the health of embiid. when embiid was making a difference you trade the picks for proven stars right there, there's no reason to rely on unproven players, that was what broke the camels back.
I hate when people make **** up.
-Simmons was drafted in 2016. Sixers were a 10 win team. Jo had yet to play a game.
-Fultz was 2017. Sixers were a 23 win team. Jo had played 31 games.
What proven star was coming in these years? Why would a 23 win team whose best player had yet to play 1/2 a season target them?
After 2018 the Sixers heavily recruited LeBron, inquired on AD and Kawhi, and were close on a Butler deal even before the season.
At the draft they traded Bridges for Zhaire and a 1st and then packaged the 1st + Shamet just to get 1/2 a season of Tobias.
Got Jimmy at a bargain but he took less to go elsewhere.
Gave Horford, a proven player, a massive deal.
Tried to get Chris Paul but he chose Phoenix.
If anything they were too aggressive. After 2018 Sixers were one of the premier teams in the league.
Late firsts arent bringing back proven stars in this sport so any pick after 2018 wasnt getting it done.
Trading the 1st overall for a 'proven star' in 16 or 17 was never gonna happen.
You can criticize Bridges/Shamet/1st essentially for Tobias but thats it really.
The whole point of the Process was to circumvent players not wanting to come here.
In the case of Jimmy they dont want to stay.
Phx got CP despite not making the playoffs for 10 years.
The Sixers got turned down by all the stars they wanted and they had to overpay just to keep Tobias.
Trading picks for proven players sounds fine in fantasy but this is reality.
Sixers core is 25, 27, and 28. We're still climbing the mountain.
