He still may not. Coleman had an extra year on his deal and is an absolute steal at his cap hit.

Extra year at 1.8M is valuable for sure, but if Coleman returns two 1sts, Pageau should be able to return one at least.

But this is a great trade for pursuing the cup this year and if they win the cup and Coleman plays a big role then it will be a great trade for Tampa.

also I’m not sold on Foote being a high impact NHL’er and obviously a late 1st is never a guarantee.
TB scares me now because Coleman fills a huge need and his game is made for playoff hockey

Coleman has been elite this season, don’t sleep on him. Unreal shot creator, pure energy, elite PKer. He will be awesome in the playoffs.

To be fair to the Tampa Bay fans in this thread - its really only an overpayment if the Devils hit on the pick, if they draft a dud then its a pretty decent trade.

Remember Coleman has another year at a 1.8m cap hit. He is not a rental and is that cap hit would be considered hugely valuable to any team near the cap or on a tight budget. That's why he got so much in return. Its a different market.
