Assuming he stays healthy, I think the Devils know that as the deadline approaches his cap hit gets lower and more teams will make better offers. Historically, teams at the top are willing to pay with 1sts because their value is lower to them. A 1st from a team like Boston is worth more than a 2nd from Montreal. I just think that if the Devils are smart they can wait this out and get at least a 1st, a comparable 2nd tier prospect that MTL would offer and a character roster player from any team that is looking to improve their team before the playoffs.
