Why is everyone freaking over this? For 1 did everyone forget what time of year it is? Apparently every play in the NHL is going to switch teams in the next week

The oilers are obviously not trading Talbot

If they are willing to move up, I think could be a few reasons:

1) They dont think hes going to resign (havent heard any rumours where this is the case)
2) If he has a really good year next year, what will he cost? Oilers may not be able to afford him. Also hes at the age where the a 5 year deal or something could be problematic. (Though he didnt get a shot till later in his career, so he shouldnt have a ton of mileage on his body)
3) If he has another bad year, he will have little value (so maybe get some value while you can?)

I cant see him being moved personally.
