The Maroon & Gold head into the postseason next week with the 2021 Big Ten Men's Ice Hockey Tournament at Compton Family Ice Arena in Notre Dame, Ind. The three-day event runs from Sunday, March 14 through Tuesday, March 16 with all games televised by the Big Ten Network. The No. 2 seed in the tournament, Minnesota begins tournament play against No. 7 seed Michigan State on Sunday, March 14 at 3 p.m. CT.
Top seed Boston College will host a single game Hockey East Quarterfinal next Sunday, March 14 at Kelley Rink. Start time and opponent will be announced following the Hockey East First Round games, which take place on Wednesday, March 10.
To be eligible for the NCHC Academic All-Conference Team, a student-athlete must compile a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average or better, while having completed at least one full academic year at his current institution. Student-athletes that have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better are honored as NCHC Distinguished Scholar-Athletes, in addition to Academic All-Conference.
First-Team All-NCHC dmen Matt Kiersted and Ronnie Attard received 12 and 8 first place votes. Perbix received 6. Ottawa 1st round pick Jacob Bernard-Docker had 5.Perbix (Elk River, Minn.) tied for second among NCHC defensemen in scoring with 19 points on five goals and 14 assists. The Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick blocked 30 shots and fired 57 shots on goal, while playing in all 24 games
Powell led all rookies at plus-15 during the regular season and hasn't had a minus rating in a contest since the second game of the season. The defenseman led all first-year blueliners in both assists (11) and points (13).
The University of Minnesota Duluth started postseason play tonight in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Frozen Faceoff against a red-hot Western Michigan University team. The Bulldogs willed their way past the Broncos in overtime, 5-4, in what was a roller coaster of a quarterfinal. The Bulldogs have won 13 straight postseason games, going back to the start of the 2018 NCAA Tournament. UMD improves to 14-9-2 on the year and advances to the NCHC Frozen Faceoff semifinal against St. Cloud State University.

Hockey East had a 7-2 upset like an hour ago with Lowell beating Boston University.Things have not gone Minnesota’s way through about 2 periods. Michigan State leads 1-0 thanks to a pp goal but they’ve kept it that way by blocking a ton of shots and eliminating high scoring chances for the much more skilled Gophers. Looks like Minnesota might be without Brock Faber the rest of the game too, who is up for big ten dman of the year.
