I'm starting to come to the belief that sports fans simply like to revel in the idea someone sucked as opposed to the other team was great.

My take on the game: it was both.

The Panthers' offensive line has been great all year (#2 as ranked by PFF, IIRC). Even if the tackles weren't exactly a strong point, Miller had a day and made the difference. He absolutely earned his MVP.

But when Cam did have time to throw, he missed a few guys, or they dropped balls, or there were some blown calls. Add that with a few bounces (fumbles going the wrong way), and several dropped Manning interceptions (I thought McClain could have had six on the first drive), and you have the game we saw.

The Broncos had 178 yards and 24 points while holding the Panthers to 10. Their defense had to win the game for them, and they did.

Also who cares about cams behavior last night. Everyone was just pissed off at him for dancing around and being happy. Are you serious with that. He's allowed to be emotional.

He could have been more conciliatory after the game but who cares. This isn't hockey. These guys aren't going to gather at midfield after the game and start a handshake line.

Cam is just a fun loving kid so let him enjoy the game. I know it may be difficult for many to grasp as they want him to be "classy" by their standards, which probably means he doesn't celebrate at all or "tones it down". The guy is giving balls to kids. And you say it's classless. Give me a ****ing break.

You are right, players are allowed to be emotional. The problem I have with Newton is not that he is "emotional" (what he did yesterday, I understand, it is a lack of maturity, but it doesn't bother me). The thing I dislike is showboating. He is pre-planning his celebrations and making things all about himself. It isn't a crime and he is free to do as he pleases, but it doesn't mean I have to like it or "embrace" it.

He does plenty of things I like though. He is an excting player and fun to watch (as a football player). He is GREAT with kids, I'll give him that.

Not liking something doesn't mean I want it to change. He is what he is and that's fine... but I don't have to like EVERYTHING about him.

Whether or not you're joking (and I think you are), it's his word/phrase choice that leaves a lot to be desired. He picks a word that kinda sort fits, but it leads to a phrase you've almost surely never heard before. And he actually did graduate this summer.

Those people would have found any way to pat themselves on the back today.

No, I'm not joking. His use of double negatives and yes, his annunciation, indicates his lack of intelligence. If he did in fact graduate from college, that speaks more to the level of deterioration that standards of higher education have fallen than to his purported high level of intellect.

I don't understand why people don't like "showboating" as long as it is not directed at an opposing player. Where does it arbitrarily fall on a scale of taunting to celebrating?

Or maybe some people are just bad public speakers

So now we're going beyond the character attack and into an attack on his intelligence.

Next up: what's Cam Newton's fundamental worth as a human being?

It's about his level of maturity and arrogance (which many people are having an issue with today, clearly). I believe they're directly correlated.

And

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.co...s-admits-they-fabricated-newspaper-headlines/

During the Bears season opener, Fox Sports wanted to reference some headlines that questioned Jay Cutler’s toughness in last year’s NFC Championship game.

Since no headlines actually existed in any newspaper, Fox decided to make them up. And then say they were real. Seriously.

Here are the three headlines Fox used as a graphic, via Poynter:

1. “Cutler Leaves With Injury”

2. “Cutler Lacks Courage”

3. “Cutler’s No Leader”

Fox analyst Darryl Johnston backed them up by saying “these are the actual headlines from the local papers in Chicago.”

Except they weren’t. The Chicago Tribune thought the headlines sounded fishy because Cutler was defended locally. They did an investigation, and there no such headlines in Chicago. Or anywhere else in the country.

“It was misleading,” admitted FOX Sports spokesman Dan Bell.

It’s more than misleading. They intentionally made up headlines and then went out of their way to say they were real.

“Our attempt was to capture the overall sentiment nationwide following that game,” Bell said.

The Annunciation is a Christian church term for the announcement by the angel Gabriel to Mary that she was pregnant with Jesus. It is also a broader term for the announcement of something.

You've used that word twice in posts attacking someone's intellect. Just so we're clear, I wonder which of those definitions you intend.

Or, the guy just got destroyed in the biggest game of his life and is highly emotional, of course he won't be eloquent.

Normally I'd agree but he's never been super articulate. Not that I fault him for it. Just because you are an athlete doesn't mean you're great in front of a camera. By all accounts, his teammates love him. That's all that matters.

I'd be pretty pissed if my opponent (it was Chris Harris doing his interview) who just beat me was across the room going, "Can you throw the football?"

Anyone would but there's no need to just leave the room when your A) Franchise Player and B) Face of the team. Suck it up and ignore it, trash talking is part of the game.

That's not how you conduct post-game, press conferences. Plain and simple.

I don't think it has to do with not liking showboating. I liked Cams cellys during the season. The dab was funny. He also trash talked. Which is acceptable IMO. But I'd also like to see him be a professional when you have to take your licks. Those were some stupid questions he was asked but I'd venture to guess everyone gets asked dumb questions.

Hell baby

Brady after the perfect season went to dust in the Super Bowl.

I don't think it's fair to compare his post game with Brady. Both were at very different stages of their career and life. Also Brady has always been a master of saying enough to satisfy reporters without really saying anything at all- he is basically Goodell in that regard, just without blatant irrelevant lies in his long winded nothing response.
