Subban should not be making more than Doughty, Dought is a better defensively than Subban, people tend to forget to look at comparables, wake up, we still need to sign Markov and Galchenyuk, Gallagher and Pacioretty down the road as well, and Eller? Do you really want to let a big centre like him walk?
Subban is better defensively than Doughty, and just plain better than Doughty. And comparables dating back to past years don't matter so much anyway. Doughty was a comparable to Subban when Subban signed his bridge contract. But Subban has blown past that now. Subban should be making more than Doughty, no contest.

Letang might be a better comparable. Doughty was signed to an extension at a younger age. Subban makes a bigger impact offensively, doughty has a slight edge defensively.

With the cap going up 8 mil is not bad.

I don't see us letting any of those guys walk. Gionta Bourque Briere all have contracts that will expire and probably not be renewed, at least not at current cap hit. DD, Diaz, Gorges could all be moved and replaced by younger/cheaper talent.

The Habs are in a very good place cap wise going forward.

Bourque and Briere are signed beyond this season... DD can't be moved despite playing well as of late, but i love the positivity

If we can get him signed 8 years for under 64m, then it'll be a bargain. But as long as he is signed 8 years, it doesn't really matter what the figure is...

I don't care the term or cap hit. Just give him a NMC so people have to either accept him here or cheer for another team.

Lock him up for a long time, Bergevin. That Norris was a first of many more to come.

Also, I don't care about the money if it fits the market.

Wouldn't be surprised if Subban only wants 5-6 years. It would take him to 30-31 years old and still in his prime for a second long term deal be it here or another team. Pretty much the same as signing 7-8 years before the 12/13 which is what he was rumoured to want.

I think there's no way he gets less that 8M, look at the recent star player signings: Getzlaf, Perry, Kessel, Lundqvist, Giroux, etc. Not to mention, he's going to want to get a bonus for taking less on the bridge deal giving the Habs 2 seasons + 2 entry level deal of BARGAIN hockey.

Would certainly be out of line with most other contracts though where almost always the player wants as long as possible for long term certainty.

Can't really see any reason why either Subban or Montreal would want less than 8 years actually.

Every single stat (advanced included) suggests PK is the better player. Better players make more money. Especially when the cap's about to skyrocket with the new TV deal signed.

LA bought 1-2 years of of UFA years with that contract and we're buying 4-6 for 1m more, 2 years latter than Doughty signed his.

We might want the hit to be lower than what we're hearing, but the deal makes sense.

Couldn't careless what money he makes and for how long...outside of injuries, Subban is as safe of an investment as there is out there.

He's EARNED whatever contract he'll eventually sign

Pretty much, Bergevin took on the risk when he gave him that bridge contract. Now it's time to pay up!
