8yr - guaranteed (Subban obviously wants long term)

8M - anything less is a coup by Bergevin

Clauses - I'd guess there would be some kind of NT/NMC

Diaz 4 years, $12M would be good.

Bring Marky back for a similar contract.

Markov (5.5) - Subban (7.5)
Gorges (3.9) - Emelin (4.1)
Diaz (3.0) - Tinordi (1.1)
Drewiske (0.65)

Use Drewiske / Tinordi as #6/#7 next year.

Defense blows my mind. Perfect mix and very good. A little expensive but cap going up an you win games from your goalie out.

If they want, they could groom Galchenyuk on the point on the PP.

What exactly is diaz doing that we need to pay him 3m a year? I say cut him loose.



For subban, anything under 8 would be great.

Rumor has it it's 6 years/$50mil. Keep in mind with the cap going up, Subban may want the shorter term. 8yrs and anything less than 8 mil/year would favor the Habs financially but mean he's probably leaving money on the table.

Well, with a higher cap.. means he probably wants more money now.
Who knows where or how good he will be in 6 years. You sign your long term contract for 8 million per year for 8 now.

Subban should not be making more than Doughty, Dought is a better defensively than Subban, people tend to forget to look at comparables, wake up, we still need to sign Markov and Galchenyuk, Gallagher and Pacioretty down the road as well, and Eller? Do you really want to let a big centre like him walk?

He only controls one side. Maybe Subban only wants 5-6 years so he can be a potential UFA in his prime with a 90-100 mil cap?

Diaz is worth 3 mil/year. Maybe at some point once the young guys are ready not only for NHL time but for PP and Pk, then he becomes expendable. To replace him with any kind of serviceable veteran will cost 1.5-2 mil and it will be a downgrade.

* 6th in the league in blocked shots.
* Even +/- despite playing most games with Francis Bouillon
* Fantastic gap control
* Solid breakout pass
* Wins board battles by chipping pucks free
* Incredible positioning
* Can play Top-4 minutes adequately if injuries occur
* Good PP QB for a 2nd wave (he's better in the Markov role than being the shooter cause Bouillon can't)

Guy is great bang for the buck. If we can get him under $3M, he's a steal.
