Let’s not act like they were getting a roster full of all stars. Were the rules more advantageous for them? Yes. But they still should have not even made the playoffs.

Let's also not act like they were getting a team of minor league players either. Every player on their roster would have played the entire season in the NHL, no matter the team they were on.

A bunch of 2nd/3rd line players were picked, came together under a very good coach, and made the SCF's, that is insane. Basically this Vegas model has rendered the superstar player irrelevant, it will all be about the right coach (system) and the right team construction for that system going forward (at least until the next "thing" comes along).

Do you not think that cap floor teams have been playing with role players for years while their superstars they developed signed elsewhere?

The superstar player is irrelevant? Seriously?

Going forward, the first overall draft pick will not ever get an 8 year cap max deal from the team that drafted him? The team's top performing stars will not get multiyear deals at near cap max?

VGK's JM and his $5M cap max deal will be the ceiling? Everyone will be happy to sign for less?

Face it. VGK got to pick a team from scratch. Going forward, they will have the same issues the other 30 teams have. Teams will not get to buy out their rosters and select good players from other teams. The closest it comes is the UFA window and those prices are inflated. It's hard to build a balanced team under the cap.

This is more likely to be a one hit wonder than it is a blueprint.

Maybe "irrelevant" was the wrong word. Of course the teams will still pay those guys, butts in the seats and all, but Vegas has shown that the right mix and coach is more important than the superstar. So maybe a cap starved team starts to think about things a little differently going forward.

I think you and I are on the same page as I agree with most of your post.
