This looks to be a great trade for STL based on how Scandella has played so far. He and Parayko instantly formed an incredible D pairing which seems to be bringing the best of both guys out.
Although MS has played well and NOW seems to justify paying a 2nd round pick, it still doesn’t mean it was a pick well spent. Him playing this well now is all AFTER the trade, so I still think they could have had him for less.
So good job on them for seeing some potential in him to play well but it still doesn’t mean that they didn’t trade too much for him. Could have had him for a 3rd. STL were the only team to offer a second. Closest next offer was one 3rd pick without another conditional pick.

Good deal for both sides. Army paid the cost of doing business this time of year. 2nd rounder will likely be around pick 60 anyway. Scandella will greatly benefit from playing with one of the best right handed defenseman in the league in Parayko.

San Pedro, CA.
Small sample size, but it seems it’s gone from the Blues overpaying, to a pretty fair deal for both sides. Haven’t seen what it was last night, but Scandella/Parayko had a 15 shots for to 2 shots against in their FIRST game together.

That same player was acquired by the habs for a 4th round pick a month ago, and he hadnt done anything to raise his value. So getting a 2nd and a 4th for him now is a steal.

Well he's looked great in two games with the Blues so I consider a pick that's not in the top 50 for a top 4 defenseman a steal.

I didn't like the price paid so I agree in principal with what you're saying. I also think the Blues actually had a guy in house that could have played the minutes Scandella is in LD Niko Mikkola. But none of this is particularly important.

What is important from a Blues perspective is that when Bouwmeester went down the team lost a 22 min a night shut down dman on their most crucial d pairing. When that happened all bets were off and they had to get the right vet to fit in Bo's role since they weren't willing to use Mikkola as a regular yet despite Mikkola actually being a perfect stylistic fit as a Bo replacement and looking very strong in his 4 games played right before the All Star break.

If you're a team with actual Cup aspirations a 2nd and a conditional 4th is a small price to pay to have enough quality defensemen to win a championship. So we'll take our Scandella and our Mikkola and be very happy that we now have enough quality D to feel confident.

He was top 4 with the Wild for years. Honestly he might do well with the bloops style of hockey.

That was years ago, he can't be a consistent top-4, that's why he's nothing more than bottom pairing defenseman.

He played some good game with the Habs, but if you overplay him, eventually you will see the real Scandella.

In other words every time he has a good game you will say "just wait and see" and if he has an off game you will say "see, I told you so". Got it.

The trade with the Sabres has nothing to do with the Blues. The Blues got a top 4 defenseman for a late second round pick so for the Blues it's a huge win.
What top 4 D-man did you get?
The Habs got a 2nd for a 4th
That's a huge win.

I mean we have Mete, Chiarot and Kulak on the left side and Scandella was not good enough to play in the top-4 regularly.

He's a bottom pairing player. Deal with it.

Scandella. His name is in the thread title.

You know, it's kind of funny when fans of other teams trade with the Blues and talk about how bad the player is. We heard Schenn was a PP specialist and he put up 70 points in his first season, O'Reilly was a locker room cancer and he won the Conn Smythe, Sundqvist was an AHL player and he's been an integral part of the team, Bouwmeester was over the hill in Calgary and he was a part of one of the best shutdown pairings in the playoffs last year.

Enjoy your lottery pick that most likely turns out to be nothing and we'll enjoy a solid defenseman that looks like a good partner for Parayko.

But sure, you got a steal. Whatever makes you feel better about missing the playoffs again.

Right now he and parayko are on the second line. That makes him top4 you deal with it. Lol

"He played two good games, so he's a top-4 D." Logic.
Why are you so bhurt brah. Parayko and scandella just shut down 2 teams while putting a lot of shots on goal. Parayko has scored in two straight. Sometimes you just need a good system good defense partner and a good team to shine. All things Montreal just doesn't have enjoy missing the playoffs again

Your meaningless club has 1 Stanley Cup in 53 years... I can wait for our 25th cup, we have time.

Good luck for your second one, with Scandella on your top-4.

Why throw knife at each other ?

It’s a win - win so far. The best kind of trade...

If Scandella keep going....awesome for him and the blue...good fit ! They made the highest bid for him...probably because they knew he would be a great fit...good job STL scout so far on that one !

Montréal did good with a 2nd round pick compare to the 4th round pick they paid.

MTL could draft a superstar with that pick or a total bust. STL could win the Stanley cup or Scandella could collapse in the playoff. What happen after the trade doesn’t really affect the value. STL slightly overpaid...but if I were a contender...I would gladly overpaid for a playoff run.
