ERod was as bad as anyone last night. I'm not sure he had a shot that wasn't blocked or a mile wide. But hey let's make sure he's the extra man instead of someone like Bo who was on fire all night

Yeah for a guy with such a great shot he sure passes up an AWFUL LOT of opportunities to snipe it rather to try and dish it off to someone with a worst shot. He can be a pretty good passer but he just cannot turn down some of these chances to let it rip when he's in prime scoring position only to either hang on to the puck too long and put himself in a worst position to shoot or try to force a pass to a teammate who's not in a position to score.

For all the flack Newhook has gotten, for a young guy he's had quite a few really great chances to score over the past 5 games or so. He hasn't put it in though which really sucks.

The way the team was shooting last night, it looked like they got a scouting report on Gustavsson that said to score by aiming at the crest in the middle of his jersey... :ha:

That’s a god awful comparison. The conference was wrapped up with 2-3 weeks to go and they just coasted, much like Boston this year.

This current iteration of the Avs is under .500 against playoff teams. They’ve been terrible against any team with a pulse this year.
Go back and check out the mood back then lol

Seems likely that we’ll be a first round exit this year. Can’t beat any playoff teams
I dont want this to be correct but it sure feels that way. Rolling out a top line, a 3rd line and two 4th lines just ain't enough. All hopes hang on Gabe "Willis Reed" Landeskog.

SEPH is saying BCHL development. But we shouldn’t get hung on that as a fact of the matter is that Newhook has similar issues. I don’t think they are as extreme as Jost, but they exists.

I missed the first ten minutes, but yet another egg laid against playoff teams. Gotta figure that out real quick. I don’t think they played outright bad, simply not good enough.
Figure what out? We have so little games remaining lol I think this is the current iteration of the Avs we get going into the playoffs. 1st round exit is a very real reality, 2nd even more so.

Wasn't able to watch the game last night. Who do we think were Bednar's "passengers"?

I didn’t think Newhook played a lazy game, just a soft, ineffective one.

Rantanen for sure, I think Eller was weak on pucks and wasn't really battling either, but that may just be me.

I just can't tell with Compher right now, because yeah he hasn't been good but that line even on paper is just a disaster. Bednar seemed to acknowledge this and tried out a combo of Rodrigues/Eller/Compher a few times, which was at least marginally better.

Lately, his shots have been center mass on the goalie a lot. His girlfriend is super ugly (Moneyball reference) right now.

Avs might still win the central if they go 7-1 in the remaining 8 games which is doable I guess
Whatever happens they are going to have a tough time that first round. The 2C issue is going to rear its ugly face when teams can exploit it in a 7 game series. Im also not pinning my hopes on a broken Landy who hasnt played hockey in half a year. No help is coming. We can only hope whoever we play that their good players get hurt lol

He specifically said he wasn't referring to the team's top players so it wouldn't be Rantanen.

More so the depth players. Probably starting with #18.

He doesn't look bad in the majority of the games, but he doesn't really contribute to much of anything either. He's simply a time waster for the top line to get a breather at this point. I still think he has some untapped potential and has a good eye to be a sniper, but hard to score when you can't even make space or get your shot off. He's looking less like a player who can be a solid 2nd liner (I thought he'd at least become a PP specialist like Parenteau) and becoming more like a bounce-around-the-league Malgin.

Newhook is not strong enough, physical enough, skates well enough, or plays with enough intensity to contribute as a puck-hound checker. Sad to say, but it's becoming painfully apparent that he's little more than a one trick pony; a guy who has enough skill to score a pretty goal once in awhile, but NEVER in a big game at a key moment. Nor does he have any discernable playmaking skills either. As a 3rd line winger with a couple of decent linemates, at $1-1.3Myr. he has some value, but if he wants to get paid anything more than that, he needs to be packaged in the off-season and discarded ASAP á la Jost. How do you spell B--U--S--T?

I think most people are mentally prepapring themselves for a 1st round exit, especially if we play Dallas or Minnesota.
Doesn't seem like our year, true. We have the championship pedigree, but our overall health is a concern as is scoring depth.

Not one of these West teams can touch a healthy or even relatively healthy Avs team in the playoffs. Have some pride and stop embarrassing yourselves in front of these lurking fools from Minnesota or wherever the ****. @dahrougem2.

Now, the East teams? No comment.

Yup. Edmonton would scare me a bit in their current form, but their goaltending just continues to suck ass. And I have little faith in Skinner let alone Campbell magically turning it on come playoffs.

The rest? Meh.

Yeah I'm generally a pissy pessimistic bitch but I'm honestly not feeling too worried when it comes to playoff time. Everything becomes slower, more defensive, more grind-y, and the champion mentality and hardiness can often be a huge boon for that shift in play.

The Oilers might be able to outscore their goaltending issues especially if the forwards are healthy and if RNH can continue playing the way he is. The question will always be their defense. Its capable of winning a few rounds sure but can it match up to a team in the final 4? not sure it can even with the addition of Ekholm who has played very well since arriving to Edmonton.
