Why? What happened?
He had a rant about Trump and Trump supporters on Twitter. Just out of the norm for the persona he has. If there was a comedian that I'd bet money on avoiding public politics, he would've been on my list. The rant itself was stuff we've seen before, just caught me off guard that it was from the hot-pocket guy.

Yeah, I checked it out earlier. I watch him and his family have dinner every night on YouTube (they stream it), and I can tell he and his wife are not Trump supporters, though they don’t mention politics a whole lot. Of course, now a lot of his fans are upset with the typical “don’t bring politics into comedy” and “I used to like you, but I’m no longer a fan” kind of comments, but hey, freedom of speech right?

I have no issues with what he did, but I guess I’m surprised that he did it.

My thing is as long as the comedic content stays the same, I don't really care all that much about their personal views. Trump comedy and most political comedy is just low-effort stuff anyway. I don't think his style will change, so not a big deal to me.

Anyone find it annoying it when a person criticizes a comedian or a joke for any given reason, they just fall back on the argument, "well I'm an expert in comedy and you are not, so shut up" or "you are talking to about outer space to an astronaut, so shut up"?

I went to high school with this guy and he was always "the funny guy" but I never would have expected this level of success. I've always enjoyed his stuff and can say that he seems to be the same person on stage as he is in every day life. I think he's got a youtube account with some older bits and that's pretty much who he's always been

Can you elaborate.

Comedians generally default to all kinds of cheap and convenient deflections that allow them to get away with/excuse anything and everything, IMO.

That said, I'm glad Gaffigan did that-- Keep politics out of comedy is such a dumb and overly sensitive expectation. Like what, you want comedy to illuminate truths that aren't politically correct and tell things like it is, except when it comes to one of the most prominent things that affect everyone?

Just in general, anytime they are criticized, they get very sensitive it seems.

What sparked my post was Neal Brennen making a joke on twitter about Conway's daughter making an OnlyFans for White House intel. When people responded that she's 15 or that there are other monetized avenues that she could use, he then went on and on about how he's a comedic expert. It's a pretty lame joke and it's only a joke because she's 15 and OnlyFans is basically used for porn. If he used Patreon instead, it wouldn't be funny on any level, just political commentary.

And my point isn't even that they have to accept that criticism and change to it, but just don't act like whiny toddlers/teenagers about it. They'd be livid if say politicians acted that way when people criticized them.

Gaffigan really wasn't putting politics into his comedy, he is just a celebrity that was giving his political opinion on social media.

I don't know, that's kind of borderline for me. Twitter is part of a comedian's professional platform now, and he's making comedic quips about it. I don't think it's that unreasonable to lump them together.

Neal Brennan hates the fact he doesn't get the credit for the Chappelle show he deserves. If you've ever listened to his podcast he goes on and on about himself and all that he does. He put's himself up there with he greats and name drops like a mother. His podcast is entertaining though most times.

I can't stand how much Joe Rogan talks about comedy and his process.

And I typically like him and think he's a pretty good, that's why I meant it more in general terms because it's no way isolated to him. Instead of just saying, it's dark comedy, and this is nowhere near my worst stuff, so if you don't like dark comedy, then don't listen to my stuff, they tend to lash out, just seems silly to me.

Mark Forward is a guy who doesn't get enough attention. He's most famous as Letterkenny's hockey coach, but his own stuff is better.

He's not quite like anyone else IMO, it's almost performance art. But stylistically, he's kind of a cross between Louis CK and Demetri Martin.

His special "Mark Forward Wins All the Awards" is worth watching. I can only find Youtube trailers so you'd have to see it on Crave or some other streaming service.

Been watching this series with Craig Ferguson: Hobo Fabulous. A behind the scenes look at his live show during a tour in the US.

^ Oh I might watch that. I don't like Craig's standup but I like Craig and how funny he was on the Late Late Show so a behind the scenes type thing would probably be better for me than the actual standup show.

Obsessed with James Acaster, re-watched all four parts of his repertoire series.
