Vegas can resign Lehner if they want. They’ve managed the cap very well. In fact, they should, Fleury isn’t getting any younger and that team is in win now mode.

Have they?

The have 70 million tied up in 20-21 with 13 players. 8 of those 13 players have NTC or M-NTC. 11 million in cap space for 8-9 players is not a big amount.

Fluery has 2 years @ 7.0 left. Lehner will cost at least 6 million.

So no they can't resign him...

So he looks like the good guy and to make his stock look better?
again while you do make a good point, actually a great point, there is always 2 sides to every story ........ to tell you the honest truth, i really do not care which story is true.

i will stick to what i said before the ASG...... Lehener > a 4-6 mil it would a a real stretch at 7 mil, per 3-4 yrs..... anything more..... bye bye.

Absolutely they have, look at their chart, pretty good values and no major free agents.

Reaves comes off the books, that’s about 3M. The cap could go up. Stastny only has 1 year left. With Glass emerging, they could trade him and free up 6.5M. Both Stastny and MAF only have 10 team no trade lists, not too prohibitive.

McPhee and McCrimmon have done an exemplary job out in the desert, got to hand it to them.

They haven't really done an amazing job at all considering they are going to have to shed an important roster player this summer and it will need to be one of the 8. Glass is coming but 11 million for 8 players is not enough.

But it has the opposite effect. Whether or not he's in the right, no team is going to view favorably his badmouthing Chicago on his way out the door. There are times it's better to just smile and eat a shit sandwich.

I'm blown away his agent hasn't told him to shut up at this point. Although with the Laz story that was leaked by his agent, he's probably not the brightest crayon in the box.

From the time Lehner left, all he's done is make himself look worse for prospective teams.

I get what you're saying, but your argument hinges on "they *just* need to shed $13.5 million and they're fine"

They have to fill their bottom 6. Their top 6 and D are signed to reasonable if not team friendly contracts. If they want to resign Lehner, they can find a way. Of course it will require them to make moves, just like any other team. They haven’t painted themselves into a corner though. It’s very impressive.

Having to shed salary is the definition of painting themselves into a corner. They are going for the cup so that is fine but they are going to have to move assets to get some cap relief. Would you say that Bowman was a great cap manager during the cup run? He robbed Peter to pay Paul when he needed to during the cup runs.

I think he did a good job on the cap hits.

The difference here is McPhee gave players 10 team NTC’s, so they are movable. Bowman gave NMCs and NTCs to interior players.

That’s why Bowman painted himself into a corner and McPhee/McCrimmon gave themselves options if they want to reshape their roster.

Vegas doesn't have to shed any cap space. Assuming a cap of 84mil, they have 18.75mil in cap space with 9-10 players to sign. That's 1.875mil/player.

There top 6 is already set, so they need to sign 7 bottom 6 forwards, and 2 6/7 Dmen.

Sign 3-4 forwards for 1mil/ea or less, that's 14mil left.
Sign 2 Dmen and a back up goalie for 2-3mil, they have 11-12mil left for 3 more forwards.**

I don't see that as a big deal, they don't have any major RFAs or UFAs. They could probably sign everyone on their roster now and be under the cap. But yeah, they can't sign Lehner unless they move Fleury. Which might be an option for them.

**edit-I missed Tuch who is on LTIR who makes 4.75mil. So they have 6-7mil left to sign 2 forwards.
