Wow. The only way I could see that is if Teoscar's defense in the spring was as wretched as it was at certain points in 2018 (i.e. he came in showing no improvements, was dragging ass, or whathaveyou).
I understand the asset management side of it, but that's a tough sell for a young player with a .977 OPS to have two (Pompey and McKinney) arguably lesser players (at least in terms of MLB production to date) promoted ahead of him.
To be fair, that .977 OPS is based almost entirely on a .500 BABIP. Not that Pompey has been great with 11 Ks and no walks, but still... I think if it comes down having one on the team and one on waivers vs. one on the team and one in Buffalo, I send Teoscar down for a bit.
Hell, Pompey survived multiple years of getting cut so they wouldn't have to lose Carrera... Teoscar will get through it.
Also, they just optioned an OF with a .978 OPS this spring, so Teoscar's .977 should be no problem!
