As usual you make no sense. Of course they would be trading with playoff teams.

Theres always a welfare element to this. "Our guy doesnt look so great with us but you should ignore that and pay extra just because (eg Chiarot) your players will prop him up...oh and give us a prospect in addition to a pick.

Does that clarify it? Does this page from the playbook sound familiar?

Monty might get you something but I don't think Allen will.
Allen should. Most contenders don't have a backup as good. He is not great and he can't handle a full load but he is better than most contenders backups and some starters. So many teams have no goaltenders and gutless GM's that will wait to long and be stuck with the trash they have.

If he plays 10 or more games ( regular season, playoffs combined ) this season for the team we trade him to, Habs get a 3rd rounder. Otherwise Habs get future considerations ( meaning nothing ).

It's not that. It mostly stems from the Monahan to the Avs stuff. It would be a terrible acquisition but also not surprising given the Avs GM's recent propensity for getting players like this who are a bad fit. It's happened multiple times already and the possibility of it happening again is slightly triggering.

FYI - if there was a Habs player that fits with the Avs, it's Anderson but his contract makes it prohibitive. Very appreciative of Lehkonen and Drouin - both former Habs.

Nothing against the Habs. Theres also a certain degree of annoyance with the laziness of some in the Canadian media - namely Dreger in this recent instance. He's probably just spitballing names based on last year. But you can never be 100% certain.

I hope Hughes doesn't get too greedy when it comes to Allen's return in a trade.

Afaic, as long as Habs get rid of the extra year of his contract, personally I wouldn't be too demanding.

An equivalent contract that takes end after the season?

He's not bad as a backup, would be a nice insurance policy for a team like L-A (exemple), that have no depth in terms of goalies.

No, but hopefully Habs won't be stuck in a 3 goalies system again next season.

So if it doesn't happen before TD, it has to be next summer...
Hughes traded away Weber's cap hit with multiple years remaining without retaining he can trade Allen .

Value is in the tank after being pretty solid in relief of Price. Play has been going gradually downhill and has had some injuries. Not a bad guy in a backup role, especially to support and/or mentor a young starter. Not much value in real terms unless we take a contract dump in return and/or retain on his deal which is 3.85 mil until 2025. He has a NTC subject to his list of teams. I'd say for straight-up trade, we'd be very lucky to get a late 4th, but not likely. So not much value for JA at this point, IMO.

As opposed to American media who barely acknowledge the existence of the NHL

Habs are hurting Allen's value by playing him so little. How is he supposed to get in a rhythm and consisentency if he plays twice every 10 games. Since November he has 1 win in 10 games started and .885 save percentage.

Asking for a 2nd given the shortage of goalies not out of line.

The problem is that most contenders do not have cap space to take on a $3.85M back-up with a year left without significant retention. The Leafs might be the one and only exception. The Habs would have to take back Samsonov. But even then is he an upgrade over Martin Jones right now for them to do this. Jones has a .924sv% in 14 games. And I am not so sure they would want that $3.85M on the books next year.

LA is looking at possibly $3M in bonus overages next year which would leave them with about $19M in cap space. Byfield and Allen together would eat up $11-12M.

Didn't Vancouver just take a third banana goalie off of Montreals roster to start the year? Where do you guys keep finding back up goalies?!?!
