    Marleau - Matthews - Ennis
    Hyman - Tavares - Marner
    Leivo - Kadri -Brown
    Johnsson - Lindholm - Kapanen
    Gauthier

    Rielly - Hainsey
    Gardiner - Zaitsev
    Dermott - Ozi
    Carrick

    Andersen
    Sparks
    McIlhinney

Goat is just there basically, none of the other vets impressed. He goes on waivers when Nylander signs. If we need someone to actually play I think a younger guy jumps up. Think we'll go 3 goalies or 8 D, probably 8 D, but I haven't been impressed enough with Rosen this past week to go 8 D. Carrick over Holl but they've both been bad. I'd like to kepe Pickard but seems like the competeition was between the other 2, so both for now.

    Forwards (13)
    LW Patrick Marleau
    LW Zach Hyman
    LW Josh Leivo
    LW Andreas Johnsson
    RW Mitch Marner
    RW Kasperi Kapanen
    RW Connor Brown
    RW Tyler Ennis
    C Auston Matthews
    C John Tavares
    C Nazem Kadri
    C Par Lindholm
    C Frederik Gauthier

    Defensemen (7)
    LD Morgan Rielly
    LD Jake Gardiner
    LD Travis Dermott
    RD Ron Hainsey
    RD Nikita Zaitsev
    RD Igor Ozhiganov
    RD Connor Carrick

    Goalies (3)
    G Frederik Andersen
    G Curtis McElhinney
    G Garret Sparks

Trade Calvin Pickard to Calgary for David Rittich and a pick.
Once William Nylander comes back, either Curtis McElhinney or Garret Sparks go on waivers.
If Connor Carrick is traded for only a pick(s), then LD Martin Marincin takes his place.

Waivers: LD Martin Marincin, C Josh Jooris, RW Adam Cracknell, RD Justin Holl, RD Vincent LoVerde, G David Rittich, C Chris Mueller.
Reassigned: LD Calle Rosen, LD Andreas Borgman, RD Timothy Liljegren, RD Jordan Subban, C Adam Brooks, LW Mason Marchmen, LW Carl Grundstrom, RW Trevor Moore, LW Dmytro Timashov, RW Jeremy Bracco, LW Pierre Engvall + any AHL contract players.

That's what I think should go down based on preseason.

I'm not big on preseason. It's good for figuring out who has taken a step over the summer, but otherwise it's just liable to make you overreact to what happens in a few games. As such, I don't think there's anything that has changed really since before it started. Dermott had a pretty bad preseason for example, but I care much more for what he did over half a season than what happened in a few meaningless preseason games.

Marleau - Matthews - Nylander (Ennis)
    Hyman - Tavares - Marner
    Leivo - Kadri - Brown
    Johnsson - Lindholm - Kapanen
    Goat (waived when Nylander returns)

    Rielly - Hainsey
    Gardiner - Zaitsev
    Dermott - Ozhiganov
    Rosén, Holl

    Andersen
    Sparks

"If it's close, tie goes to the veteran" - Mike Babcock. In this case, it'll be McElhinney over Sparks. Everyone else pretty much has the rest right.

What do the advanced stats say about Rosen, Holl, Carrick, and Oz for preseason?

Agreed here. I do think Carrick is more valuable than Holl but if they can find trade value for Carrick to a rebuilding/retooling team, then I'm down for this lineup.

They might pre emptively waive Gauthier, Pickard and McBackup or Sparks and a couple others through the massive waive of cuts tomorrow so that they can perhaps try to squeak the players down. It's a lot easier than in a few weeks when teams might not be happy with their current depth or due to injuries.

So despite Sparkd being dog **** all pre season and being by far the worst goalie in camp you'd STILL hand Sparks the job?

He can't do it he's proven it

Mac was bad tonight Sparks was bad every night

I'm keeping the guy that's a decade younger and not throwing him overboard because of a couple of pre-season games for a career backup in the twilight of his career

In what world has Sparks done anything to be on this team?

I'm sorry, but there is absolutely NO reason for someone with movement as awful as his and a preseason as awful as his to be even near our roster, I'd take Pickard before I took him.

For the open spots I’d go with

    Backup McIlhinney

    Centre Lindholm

    Wing Leivo

    Defence Carrick

Not really. Primary call up definitely though. He was good but not better than the forwards ahead of him + he's waiver exempt so that goes against him too. He reminds me of where Johnsson was at this time last season. If he can put up a strong, consistent regular season in the AHL, he may not be there for very long.

Mac not a great night tonight (not his fault really), but was still the 2nd best goalie in camp.

Dermott and Oz on bottom pair. Keep Holl and Carrick as your 7/8

Cracknall as your 13th until Nylander comes back.
