That’s last years cast. They probably haven’t updated it yet. I read somewhere they have hired 6 new cast members. They will probably have a few people leave as well.

NBC posted that list on August 27th and it's last season's cast list because no official announcement has been made as to who is returning and who is leaving. It's pretty strange that less than a week before the season premiere that a final cast list has not yet been announced.

I thought the season premiere was pretty good. Owen Wilson was a good host, and I like that they ended weekend update with some Norm jokes.
Yeah, I've been disappointed with them just showing a title card with a photo and their dates. I think it would have been a better tribute for former cast members to run a sketch they did.

I do think Norm deserves a Best of Tribute episode too.

Solid episode IMO.

Apparently the media is reporting Twitter users who were triggered by the Dog the Bounty Hunter appearance and the Cars IV sketch.

Kyle mooney is in his 9th year on the show--what characters has he created that will be remembered?

Thompson is at 19 years on the show?!
Kate McKinnon 11 years--is she afraid to leave after so many bad movies?
Aidy Bryant 10 years?
Cecily Strong 10 years as well
Colin Jost 9th year
Michael Che and Pete Davidson at 8 years

they need to leave

it has lost its bite
Wow, so Kenan Thompson has been with SNL since before the iPhone was initially released and since before Facebook was launched. That is nuts. I bet he makes pretty damn nice money too.

I don't think the show is that lucrative. They can make decent money, but, traditionally, it seemed like the path to big dollars was to break out with something bigger. The SNL schedule has always been reputed to be pretty brutal, and previous casts were generally looking to jump ship so they can try their luck in other projects.

I'm not sure what's changed, but there clearly seems to be a desire from both the network and the cast to stay on as long as possible.

I'm not sure if there's too much of a feeling that jumping off the show can lead to irrelevance quickly. But, the hit rate for the bigger names on the show is still pretty decent.

Just the tenure of Kenan Thompson is mind boggling. It would be the equivalent if someone from the initial SNL cast stuck around to the end of the Farley/Sandler era.

Some not very ambitious googling led me to a figure of $25,000 an episode for Kenan. Goodness.

SNL is what it is these days, and the OJ bits were pretty tasteless last night, but have to say, of all the non-traditional hosts (politicians, athletes, random rich people) Kim Kardashian's stage presence and cadence in landing her lines was closer to the top than the bottom. Obviously she's used to a camera being on her, but SNL is a different beast and on the whole she did pretty well and certainly exceeded expectations.

This is a decent read about just that: Why Doesn't Anybody Leave Saturday Night Live Anymore?

Thompson, McKinnon, Bryant, Strong are all excellent live-TV comedians who are going to eventually be remembered as "classic" cast members. Thompson is the longest running cast member ever and has pretty much defined his adult career as being an SNL staple. Why would they leave?

Davidson is divisive, but probably the biggest star of the past decade. They certainly don't want him leaving if they can help it.

Jost and Che are meh, but they're also just the Weekend Update guys so who cares. It's a niche role where you don't want to cycle through bit players looking for a fit (see: Cecily Strong).

Mooney, sure. He's not terrible but he's very forgettable for someone who's been on the show for nearly a decade.
