Not sure what thread to throw this in, but this seems fine. Anyhow Slovak hockey play-by-play guy Matej Hajko passed away today at age 38. He is perhaps most famous for calling Slovakia's run to the gold medal at the 2002 World Championships in Goteborg.

[Edit: now other news sources are claiming he is alive, not sure what gives]

You too? You also wanted to be the first one, who will mention this "breaking news". :shakehead

I did not believe it until I saw it in TASR. Surely, I said to myself, a service as reputable as TASR would check their sources.

Correct me I'm wrong, but our future basic core will look like:
Tatar, Panik, Jurco, Marincin, Gernat, Reway, Dano, Kolena, Cehlárik, Viedensky, Janus ... ?
Am I wrong or missing someone?

I'd say you're missing Zaborsky, Bliznak, Andrej Stastny, Juraj Mikus (both) and Matousek.

That one was good.

I think they'll be part of future teams. Matousek captained the U20 team and both Mikus' are KHL caliber players and born in the late 80's. The team is ageing. These guys will be in consideration for National Teams going forward.

Basically I'm talking about 5-10 years future. When they will enter their prime and will be in age 25-30.

Im sure, you are missing someone. Bit i dont know, who could it be... :D

Anyway, lets also focus to Czech Extraliga and our goalies there. Marek Ciliak, Julo Hudacek, Marcel Melichercik are doing very well. Also Tomáš Halász in Czech 1. league (94,5 % !).
Ďaloga, Skokan, Kytnar, Tybor, Jan Sykora, Juraj Valach.... I see them also as players for the future.

Love this team, with one exception... Marcel Hossa. I've never seen him doing anything good in NT (and i am old enough to watch NT from the time he started to play there). I was hoping for Rasto Spirko over this guy, he showed a lot more in games i saw.

No Šatan. I'm ok with that.

Would much rather have Jurčo, Tatar, and Pánik there.

Panik has very poor season, I saw him maybe 15-20 times (from october as 2nd/3rd line and PP unit player till nowadays as marginal player without ice-time).

He is not being given much of a chance by his coach. It is difficult to accomplish much when you get 5-7 minutes TOI per game. There is no questioning his talent. I can remember him turning some heads at the World Championships in 2010, I believe he will do the same in Sochi when given the opportunity. He is the all time leading scorer for Slovakia at the World Junior Championships with 22 points.

he had many chances this season but his inconsistency is really a problem. He has all the tools to be a solid NHL player but he has to be more consistent. He had that problem In the AHL so I hope He can deal with it in the NHL too.

Good one. But there are only few, that will play in HK Orange. And as we know, at least half team in WJC is from this project.
