Yeah, but society has thankfully changed, and those kinds of decisions are going to be more scrutinized.

I'd happy escort Bobby Hull to the nearest dumpster, for the record. Nazi-sympathizing, wife-beating piece of ****.

Morally I agree with you.

However my point was that the NHL doesn't give a crap about morality. The NHL cares about $. If employing a woman beater adversely affects the bottom line, he'll be shunned by teams; if not, he'll be welcomed back with open arms. Hence how Bobby Hull can still walk into any NHL stadium and receive a standing ovation and the NHL approves.

chill out. he only had 1 action, not multiple, and it happened in the heat of the moment. quite a ridiculous statement. also, how are you going to know if he has actually changed?

Well apparently there was two different cases where he first punched her in the jaw outside a party and then at a different time police caught him choking out his wife on the floor(as he put her in a chokehold 3 times during that incident) while there was blood all over the place from a laceration above her eye. That’s definitely more than the heart of the moment slap or punch...

I understand what you are saying, and you are correct in your statement about the NHL.

But what I’m asking is do you want him on YOUR team. What do you think, not the league.

Teams win and lose but you will never be able to live down signing scum. Its the same with teams that ever played Matt Cooke. They're garbage and the ownership should be let go.

Don't really know if he's changed or not, hopefully he has. If people were ready to give O'Reilly another chance then I'd give Voynov another chance

I'm kind of torn so I'll vote 'no'
I wouldn't complain much if we signed him though

Yes.
A messy situation initiated by her (who is still happily married to him to this day) that he repeatedly tried to remove himself from, that was allegedly nothing more than a miss-matched shoving match does not justify destroying someone's entire career & livelihood. There would be less concern about a player who beat the crap out of a random man unprovoked than there is about this much lesser scenario. If Patrick Kane still has a career in this league after beating up a taxi driver, being accused of rape, and various other things that bring his character into question, I don't see why Voynov shouldn't.

100% yes. As long as he isn’t a huge locker room cancer I only care about his on ice performance. Voynov is still a very good defenseman. There are lots of players who’ve done bad things and are still in the NHL (Kane) Yes he’s a complete POS for the incident but a POS who’s very good at hockey

Convicted. Domestic. Abuser. Crime scene compared to a horror movie. This is not a guy who slapped his wife once and immediately regretted it. If my team signed this scum I would active root against them. Embarrassing that people are voting yes in this poll.

I.E.
He committed a terrible crime, and I'm not going to defend it or minimize the action in any way.

However, I also believe in people serving their time and a propensity to change. He was punished to the tune of the longest suspension in NHL history and ultimately self-deporting and losing what will be at least 4 years of his NHL playing prime for a misdemeanor. Provided he is an exemplary citizen now, and I'd prefer for his eventual team to support him making a large outreach effort, I'd be good with him on the shortest leash imaginable.

I don't necessarily begrudge people saying no here, don't get me wrong, but I also don't believe in branding him for life provided he shows to be a changed man as well as one who isn't just issuing a token apology, but one who goes above and beyond to make things right.

Pretty ridiculous that right near when Slavs is being talked about to coming back the Hoffman situation comes out... These have both gotta be two of the most disgraceful situations of NHL history.

It’s insane how some teams as gonna have to debate wether having a past woman beater, or a potential husband of a *****(aka, a woman who classlessly cyber bullied another woman who lost her child).

Yeah, this "Heat of the moment" is pure horseshit. People just don't beat the shit out of their significant others in the heat of the moment. Voynov can stay in Russia.

Police say Slava Voynov kicked, choked and pushed wife

Some 'mistakes' are worse than others.

Nobody is saying Voynov should never be allowed to play hockey again. But playing hockey in the NHL specifically is not a right. He can play in Russia, he can play in Europe, there are any number of places he can continue to ply his trade, outside the country where he demonstrated a profound lack of respect and empathy for another human being.

That's a lie. I said no such thing. :sarcasm:

I'd take him on the Leafs. He's a good player and as long as he doesn't negatively affect the room or have a terrible personality, I don't see much risk.

I agree with you, if someone results into beating there spouse than they’re is no heat of the moment, if you guys can’t talk things iut(or a particular partner can’t) than they should not be together and the person with violent tendencies should A. Go to prison and follow it up with B. Counciling or something to help fix the issue.

Anyways who knows, it was a long time ago though it was a disgusting act violence(did he really think he was gonna lose the fight with his wife, he’s professional male athlete). I’m inclined to be forgiving(the higher severity the more change that has to be done), in this case for me to forgive would take a hell of a lot but if he has changed enough where he will not ever hit or act violently towards his partner as well as being regretful for his actions than I guess I could give him a fair shake(I still wouldn’t want him on my team though).

Hell no.

If someone signs him i hope he has a huge target on his back every second he plays in this league.

I don't want him anywhere near the league. It sends a terrible message to the victims of domestic abuse everywhere. I would be absolutely furious if he was signed on the Leafs.
