I like the wysh theory on this. Patty goes to Arizona where he plays a couple years, they then transition him to coach where, a few years later, he can lure his bff Matthews to go back home to the desert. Playing the long game.

there would be numerous benefits to any team, especially a young team to have marleau at league minimum. many of the details he would bring to a team would be invaluable and in some cases can't be taught by a coach

He’s got a bit left in the tank. He just needs quality line mates to get 30 - 35 points out of him. Lower competition is also probably a must, so he would have to be on a team with good top 9 depth.

His skating is still good, but his hand are gone and he does not engage physically whatsoever anymore

It's getting sad to see. Trying to set the ironman record by playing with no intensity is a bad look.
