Now he does not have that advantage next season.

Pens
Flyers
Devils
Rangers
Islanders
Caps
Jackets
Hurricanes

Speaking of which, what is the breakdown of games we play in-dvision?

4 vs. each, 2 home/away?

And back on topic, I agree, Sid would have won if it wasn't for games missed.

There are no set guidelines for that, though. How do you quantify who did more for their team?

Ovechkin put up his points and the Caps piled up their wins against non-playoff teams. His statline, and the Caps', against playoff teams was laughable at best. Can you imagine the Pens' point totals if they were in the SE this season? Crosby's point output?

That's the subjective nature of the award. Sports leagues always make the MVP definition intentionally vague to create interest and drive discussion. The NHL is no different.

You'll get no argument for me on who is more deserving of the award between Sid and Ovie. I'm just making the pretty obvious and hard to dispute point that with an award that is supposed to be given out on the basis of value to their team, missing a significant amount of games drastically hurts your chances.

in 1989, lemieux outscored gretzky by 31 points (all of which were goals... and in less games played). he also set an nhl record (that still stands) for the percentage of team goals he factored in on. gretzky was deemed "more valuable" by the media that year. steve yzerman was deemed "more outstanding" by his peers. these subjective awards mean ****. if anything, losing out on 3-4 more scoring titles due to injury is what should sting crosby the most.

Brooks Orpik finished higher in the Norris voting than Paul Martin.

Let that sink in for a minute.

The awards became worthless all star level idiocy when Crosby was not given the Hart this year. 12 voters had him 5th on their ballots. Honestly I consider these awards to be the equivalent of studio wrestling and Monster Truck Rallies from here on.

I think they need to be more selective with who can vote. It's pretty evident that a lot of local writers who vote don't watch many out of market games.

Or at least limit the number of writers per paper or something. All the local reporters are biased and if a city has more writers/papers, then that gives an unfair advantage to players from larger markets.

And for the record, from the one guy in the media that actually deserves respect:

Bob McKenzie ✔ @TSNBobMcKenzie
Crosby, Ovechkin, Tavares named Hart Trophy finalists. My ballot had Crosby and Toews 1-2 followed by Ovechkin and Tavares.

with Sid's luck he probably 'should have' lost the Lindsay as well. the media and circumstance seem like they've conspired against him when it comes to awards so, picking this up is nothing to sneeze at.

It is comical hearing at HF how the media favor Crosby. The best player of his generation by far is going to end up with the less hardware than a lot of hacks who could not hold his jock strap.

It's funny that the players voted Sid best player, but the media didn't. Wonder who knows more about the goings on down at ice level.

Don't forget the Lindsay voting is done a week or so before the end of the season, so people passing Sid late in the year may not have been considered as much by the players.

Not sure when Lindsay voting was done this year though.

It's a joke that Sid didn't win the Hart. Ah well, that's why you have to stay healthy and win the awards where subjectivity plays no part.

I seriously hope that Crosby finds something better to do in future years when there are awards shows again. Really anything would qualify as something better to do.

If he wasn't injured so often he would have more trophies. Why are you so upset about this? Crosby is the best and everyone knows it and will know it after all their careers are said and done. Your posts make you look like an insecure teenager.

EDIT: And it's not like Crosby is trophyless. Ross, 2xLindsay, Richard, Hart. Then also the team achievements. Cup and Gold...

Here we go...“@SWhyno: #Caps' Oates: Crosby is MVP calibre but "didn't have an MVP season." Ovechkin gets Hart: http://*******/168Yttp â€

For those who have asked, Crosby led Ovechkin by 23 points at time of broken jaw.

Oates is a homer
