it's something...he deserves this and a whole lot more. glad the other players have his back. iirc Crosby cast his vot for Stamkos.

next step is NHL All-Star Selections. he and Letang will probably pick up nods. i'm guessing First Team for Sid and Second Yeam for Kris.

It's funny that the players voted Sid best player, but the media didn't. Wonder who knows more about the goings on down at ice level.

It's not even that. The media didn't vote for Ovechkin as the best player, they're just hanging their hat on the whole "It's value to their team!!!" thing. Crosby was hurt and therefore brought no "value" to the team for a quarter of the season. I don't really buy it, but that's how the media saw it. Hope the NHL is happy with it's most prestigious individual award being given to a lesser player because of the inane definition.

Congrats to Sid, a genuine congratulations. It's something and one of the better ones to win.

I'm not even going to point out how moronic so many members of the media are. The NHL, though...

Anyone else find it scary that the Hart still somehow holds more credibility than the Lindsay does? One would think that a league MVP that's selected by his peers would hold more value than one selected by bloggers.

Kinda wish Crosby got snubbed and someone else won it so he had none then gets pissed off and dominates the league next season.

I think being shut down against Boston and losing 2 other awards because of a broken jaw will be enough motivation to dominate next year.

Scared in a, "Look at the power of the media," way? The media pimps the media voted award, because that benefits and involves them, and a lot of people blindly follow that. I find it scary, but all too predictable.

The criteria for each award is different, though. Most valuable player =! most outstanding player.

Crosby deserved both, but missing 12 games hurts your chances a lot more in an award where you are measured on pure value to your team.

There are no set guidelines for that, though. How do you quantify who did more for their team?

Ovechkin put up his points and the Caps piled up their wins against non-playoff teams. His statline, and the Caps', against playoff teams was laughable at best. Can you imagine the Pens' point totals if they were in the SE this season? Crosby's point output?

Now he does not have that advantage next season.
