Ovechkin showed once again that he's a choker and an awful captain. His speciality is helping his team lose important games.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not a fan of Ovechkin... but I don't get these comments. How do you know he's a **** captain? It's not like we're hearing what's said in the room.

It's somewhat amusing that a ton of people on here manage to forget that hockey is a team sport, but this if HFBoards I suppose. No one wants to win more than Ovi, especially with his playoff history. The pressure on him is immense, how can people actually say with a straight face that he doesn't care? What did Shattenkirk do? Oshie? Williams? Kuzy? Why couldn't Holtby close the door like Fleury? What did backstrom do?

It's not just on Ovi. 90 playoff points in 97 playoff games and somehow people always manage to blame him lmfao.

I guess Jarome Iginla, Joe Thornton and Mats Sundin are s*** too, not enough effort given by any of them in the playoffs, quite frankly they're disgraces to their franchises, who would be better off in the playoffs without them dragging them down, am I right?

Some people should give their heads a shake.

More to hockey than waiting for your linemates to do all of the work to feed you one-timers. Until certain people can get rid of the fanboy blinders and understand that, they'll never truly "get" what hockey is all about.

Divison titles in the crap SE, doesn't mean the team was good. The best dman this team had until 2012 was Mike Green ffs.

2016-17 Washington 55-19-8=118
2015-16 Washington 56-18-8=120
2014-15 Washington 45 26-11=101
2013-14 Washington 38-30-14=90
2012-13 Washington 27-18-3=57
2011-12 Washington 42-32-8=92
2010-11 Washington 48-23-11=107
2009-10 Washington 54-15-13=121
2008-09 Washington 50-24-8 =108
2007-08 Washington 43 -31-8=94

You don`t win 3 President trophies and have this much regular season success just from playing in a crappy division.

Check OV's stats in elimination games, he's PPG. Not sure what else you want him to do?

Given the amount of game 7s Washington has played I would have liked to see Ovechkin carry his team on his back and come up big and win one of those game sevens. I have yet to see Ovechkin do that.

2016-17 2nd round Lost G7 2-0 vs Pittsburgh. Alex Ovechkin 0 points
2015-16 2nd round Lost G6 4-3 OT vs Pittsburgh Alex Ovechkin 2 assists
2014-15 2nd round Lost G7 2-1 OT vs NY Rangers Alex Ovechkin 1 goal
2012-13 1st round Lost G7 5-0 vs NY Rangers Alex Ovechkin 0 points
2011-12 2nd round Lost G7 2-1 vs NY Rangers Alex Ovechkin 0 points
2010-11 2nd round Lost G4 5-3 vs Tampa Bay. Alex Ovechkin 1 assist
2009-10 1st round Lost G7 2-1 vs Montreal. Alex Ovechkin 1 assist
2008-09 2nd round Lost G7 6-2 vs Pittsburgh. Alex Ovechkin 1 goal
2007-08 1st round Lost G7 3-2 OT vs Philaadelphia. Alex Ovechkin 1 goal 1 assist

Three goals in 9 games, with one coming when trailing 5-0 in a game that ended up being a 6-2 loss. Only three points in the last 5 times Washington was eliminated. Not acceptable for a guy who is supposed to be one of the greatest goalscorers of all time.

Slava Malamud nails it. Ovechkin is a marketing campaign who plays hockey.

If he wants to win so badly then show some effort, signs of life, anything. He floated around the ice doing squat what's that all about?

Ovechkin in his last 4 series where the Caps were eliminated.

16/17 vs PIT: 2 goals in 7 games.
15/16 vs PIT: 2 goals in 6 games.
14/15 vs NYR: 3 goals in 7 games.
13/14 (missed playoffs)
12/13 vs NYR: 1 goal in 7 games.

In the series he's been eliminated in over his last 4 playoffs, this is a player who's supposedly one of the best goal scorers in the history of the game... who has 8 goals in 27 games (3 of those are PPG). When you add that in with him frequently disappearing... there's clearly an issue there, and it's not something you can just blame on his teammates. This is the player who's suppose to be leading the Capitals. And while there's a LOT more to the game then just goals, he's not even doing that. His 2 way play generally sucks (although he does have his moments), and even his physical game is frequently up and down. I could forgive him for not scoring if his team was winning and he was doing all the little things to win (like Crosby did vs WSH last year), but he's not even doing that. That's really why he's getting the blame - and rightfully so.

Not be a liability?

Also get his team in a position where they aren't facing elimination games?

IDK, at the very least, OV's career production has been somewhat worthy of his stature in the regular season but it has been subpar since 2010 when he and the Caps had high expectations after getting their feet wet for a few years.

What else more is there to say? The guy has a regular season resume worthy of Top 20 all-time but a significant lack of success to compliment it in the playoffs and internationally.

His game was simply never going to translate as well as some others players to playoff hockey.
