Yes it would be like Jordan leaving in 93 but he's one concussion away from having a terrible post hockey life if he is not there already. Go out on top and enjoy you life.

Concussions and severe injuries are no joke. Hockey isn't life. He doesn't owe anyone a darn thing. He should look out for his own well being.

If you're Sidney Crosby, hockey is pretty close to being life. Not everyone is born with that amount of talent, I doubt he'd be happy if he didn't push it to the limit for his legacy, but who knows.

Keep in mind, I don't give a rats behind if he retires or not, if he turns himself into a vegetable chasing some legacy or playing a game he can't let go of then that's on him.

That said, if a friend were to come to me and ask me my opinion on it and they were in the exact same position, I think my suggestion would be to strongly consider it, even if they hadn't won anything or had the money he has.

Granted that all depends on what your life plans are. If you plan to never get married or have kids and want to go out in a blaze of glory, by god beat yourself to a pulp and sit in a care home with mush between your ears. However, if you plan on having a family on down the road, well you probably need to stop and think about things a bit more and decide what is going to be important to you 5, 10, 15, 20 years down the road.

Lets face it, there are guys all around the league basically lighting matches around a gas can every single night, eventually it's going to blow up in your face.

What if playing in the NHL is how he enjoys life? Go watch the movie The Wrestler.

He definitely doesnt have anything left to prove, and unlike alot of nhlers he should be set for life financially. But only he knows how he feels on a day to day basis, if he feels good than by all means keep playing, but if he's suffering the effects of multiple concussions than I see no problem in calling it quits.

Congrats to Pittsburgh. Well deserved! I'm a fan of Crosby and he should at least seek out several neurologists and get their opinions. It's definitely something he should look into. It's not about the fans it's about his health 10/20 years from now.

I'm sure Crosby has a team of specialists with him to help him make an informed decision on his future. At the end of the day he is the only one that really knows how he's feeling. Concusions are a serious matter but they impact people differently, he quite frankly might be good to play for another 5 to 7 years without symptoms or he is one away from being messed up for a long time.

I do think he and his team will consider what is in his long term best interest health wise this summer.

Play until he cant play no more. I dont want people to use the excuse saying he.could have played longer or scored x more goals or we cpuls have won x more cups. Play until you.cant play.no more.

Possibly. Especially with his lack of concern over the safety of others with his striking of Subban's head multiple times.

Bergeron wouldn't do that, he takes concussions seriously after his own. Crosby, not so much.

Other players will take note.

I don't know.

It depends on his health. None of us in this thread know, it's all conjecture and speculation.

If Crosby and his doctors feel there is a serious danger to his health - absolutely. He's rich and famous, he can enjoy a wonderful life. I wouldn't wan to risk my life (nor want him to risk his life) if there's truly a large risk.

That being said - i don't think there is a big risk. i don't think he'd have come back to play if so.

but we'll see

Would you feel differently if you were on his staff and were earning X% of his yearly income? Crosby is due to earn a metric boatload of money. The kind of money that a lot of people would sacrifice some of their marbles to earn, easily.

I don't claim to know his health status and where he's at with his long term risk.

This is what I will tell my children and grand children about him.

"He was one of the best players I've ever had the pleasure to see play. He had a chance to enter the conversation with the likes of Gretzky and Lemieux but couldn't stay healthy. The two best players I've ever seen play."

I will say this. If I ever hear of Sid having long term health difficulties due to concussions I will tell my children and grand children this about Sidney Crosby on top of the first part.

"He also may well be the stupidest person I may have ever seen lace up a pair of skates."

You'll know he's getting close to retirement when Mario sells his stake. 66 knows his fickle fan base better than anyone.

Or maybe this mentality has evolved since that Savard injury or that actual injury has an impact on it???

Well with Savard everyone wants to talk about how Cooke is the worst person on the planet and it's all his fault, even though Savard has admitted to coming back too soon when he was not symptom-free. But the mentality with Crosby is that it's his fault if he comes back too soon and the players that hit him are not at all at fault. It's quite the double-standard.

When it comes to your health, look outside the organization, just as a precaution. I sure would if I was him.
