Sheahan off to a slow start

Riley has been the biggest disappointment on this team bar none. He's regressed terribly. If he keeps this up he'll be lucky to hit 15 points this year. He's good, but not great defensively. He's below 50% on the dot. Doesn't fight. Doesn't hit. Gets to play with top 6 wingers, and still produces nothing. Gets PP time, doesn't produce. Seriously, what value is he providing to this team right now? Remember when people thought he had a second line ceiling? That sure seems like a long shot now.

Except Abdelkader actually plays a physical, gritty game.

The guy has been absolutely invisible this year. A complete ghost.

Last time I checked development/progression isn't linear. We have no clue if Sheahan will end up like Abdelkader, who by the way, is pretty much a statistical anomaly considering current players. He has no comparables. Most players don't go from a 4th liner to an average 2nd/3rd liner at 27.

Sheahan deserves all the "hate" he gets. Not sure how I'm a hater, considering I am merely pointing out the flaws in his game. He's regressed. Considerably.

I wouldn't call him a ghost, he does some noticeable things out there. He's been a ghost in the box score, that's for sure, but I wouldn't say he's been trash this year. He can do some good things and he has room to improve, he just turned 24, and hey... he has more hits this year than he did all of last year, so he has that going for him, which is nice.

Like Abdelkader Sheahan is not a center. As soon as the Wings figure that out and make him a winger on a scoring line the offense will develop. He's got so much more offensive skill than Abdeklader it's maddening to see the Wings sign Abby to that ridiculous contract. It's Howard-Mrazek all over again.

There is no proof of that whats so ever. Abby has always had more of a scoring touch than Sheahan. Sheahan was always touted for his defensive abilities. Moving to him to Wing won't unlock some new offensive ability that has been hidden his entire hockey career.

What?

Sheahan and Abdelkader aren't comparable at all, other than in size. They play completely different games and roles. At Sheahan's age, Abby was a bottom six agitator who saw flashes on the top lines as a spark. Sheahan has been used almost exclusively in a secondary scoring role with almost non-existent physicality or agitation in his game.

Sheahan plays like a less skilled Filppula in a bigger body.
