You're counting a 5-2 SNOG with three goal scorers called on the 2 end? :P

I think they need to switch a couple things up since that Radil-Couture-Meier line hasn't been working the past five games and the Sorensen-Thornton-Pavelski line needs to be changed up goals from Thornton notwithstanding. Maybe swap Radil and Pavelski and see if something picks up there?

Radil hasn't been that good lately. He's still playing hard but he has missed some fairly easy tap ins and fumbled a fair few pucks that meant they lost the zone..

Kane - Hertl - Donskoi is our best line
Couture - Meier stays together
Thornton - Sorensen stays together (I've liked what Sorensen does with JT)

That leaves a mix of Pavelski, Radil, Goodrow, Labanc, Melker. We really need a top 6 winger for Logans line, as that Thornton line essentially would be an awesome 4th line.. and Pavelski centering the 3rd line with a mix of wingers would be great..

Easy move that makes sense to me is switch Pavelski and Radil.

It's quite fun playing with forward lines knowing that you dont have to have that difference maker on every line.. We have difference makers from the back end on the ice for 50+ minutes a game.

I’m seriously worried about the team when Vlasic comes back. Hopefully he doesn’t play tomorrow in Arizona

I am actually more curious than worried. Both about how Vlasic reacts to the solid team defense we have had with him out of the roster AND how PDB actually utilizes him when he returns. If Vlasic still plays selfish hockey and yet PDB puts him out against tougher comp, then I blame the coach more than I would the player. Especially in light of how much better the team has played without that player.

Good catch.

Haven't seen this situation before. Have seen at least one case where (with the correct score) one too many Sharks goalscorers were named and subtracted one from the tally, but in this case none of the goalscorers on the over-guessed side were correct anyway, so I'm inclined to keep it as-is.

... thoughts, @The Nemesis ?

I'd be inclined to take that SNOG as correct since the Pens scorers weren't part of its success. In the event that the Pens scorers were relevant, I would probably trim it down by only counting the first two players guessed to score (in this case eliminating Guentzel)

Typing 3 goal scorers indicates intent for a 5-3 snog. I move towards disqualification. I'd be inclined for accepting the snog if he forgot a goal scorer.

So to fully elaborate on my algorithm, I narrowed it down to anything with 5-2 Sharks and just took that at face value. Two people had that score as their result.

Then for applying tiebreakers, both named five different Sharks, and my named winner had two correct whereas the other person had only one. Neither had any correct Penguins.

If (instead of what transpired) the named winner had predicted a 6th Shark (let's say Burns), I would have not eliminated Burns but instead removed either Sorensen or Hertl. Or more simply, it would be -1 from final goalscorer tally because that was the maximum benefit they could have had by having one extra goalscorer predicted.

So if instead of saying "Malkin, Crosby, Guentzel" they had said "Letang, Crosby, Guentzel," I still would have eliminated Letang (i.e. -1 from final goalscorer tally).

Looks good. I agree with going by whatever score the poster listed, rather than counting the number of players. Penalties regardless of the order is also a good idea.

You know Vlasic has a terrible season when SJ fans hope he'll be out just a while longer. ;) Hopefully the injury has given him some time to contemplate on things and put them in perspective. At this point, he doesn't even need to be a difference maker, he just has to try to chip in and not be an anchor.

Vlasic/ Braun's abscence has proven the other D-men can handle more defensive responsibility, he should give them some easier ice time and nurture them in their struggles (especially Vlasic).

5-3

I would take the actual listed score as a stronger indication of their intended SNOG score than the # of goal scorers. It's easy to accidentally add or delete a name from your scoring list, but it's less believable that they would intentionally input the wrong score and then list the correct # of scorers (given that the baseline score is the primary SNOG objective.) So a listed 5-2 SNOG with 3 Penguin scorers feels to me like it should be counted as a 5-2 guess, dealing with the goalscorer listings separately, vs counting as a 5-3 one.

If I were charitable, as I was in my original suggestion, I would simply stop counting listed scorers once I'd reached enough to fulfill the guess quota (in our example only allowing the poster to count Crosby and Malkin, but not Guentzel). After all, it is just a silly, fun contest.

but I also do see the merit of Drunksage's idea of penalizing people for extra goalscorers by docking them a correct guess if they have too many names if we believe that the extra scorer is intended to try and sneak an extra tiebreaker in to that poster's favor. It would serve as a stronger reminder to double-check that your submission is valid.
