If Jones' top priority is money, I doubt there will be other places that can pay him much more. Jackets have the cap space and I will guess will easily pay him $9 million a year and maybe $10 million if forced to (although I hope it is closer to 9). Is there really a team out there in this financial environment who is going to pay him more than that?
If Jones' top priority is legacy, there is nowhere that can compete with the Jackets. He can be the next captain, the face of the franchise and someone who leads the Jackets back from the hopefully temporary abyss they fell into this past year.
The big thing is going to be team competitiveness, and if I was him, I'd be wanting to hear Jarmo's plan. I'd probably wait until past the draft and free agency to see if that plan is consistent with his initial actions. There has to be a legitimate path for the Jackets to return to relevance in 1-2 years instead of 3-4+ if I was in his shoes. That means I'm preparing for an uncomfortable July from a fan point of view as we wait on his decision.
Another factor is lifestyle and city features. I don't sense that is an issue for Seth, as it was for Panarin and Duchene, so I don't think it matters here.
