Sept. 20:
Newbury/Danis/Holmstrom/Bourdon all clear waivers. Bourdon likely headed for LTIR. The other three were sent to Adirondack.

Sept. 19:
http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/frequentflyers/Flyers-waive-4-players.html

LAKE PLACID, N.Y. -- Before even taking the ice at Herb Brooks Arena, the Flyers’ roster has shrunk to 27 players.

The Flyers placed four players on waivers on Thursday, including forwards Ben Holmstrom and Kris Newbury, defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon and goaltender Yann Danis.

The other 29 teams have until noon on Friday to place a claim. Otherwise, all four will be assigned to the AHL’s Adirondack Phantoms, who will open their own training camp just 90 miles south in Glens Falls, N.Y., this week.

LOANED TO JUNIOR CLUBS
Tyrell Goulbourne – Kelowna (WHL)
Taylor Leier – Portland (WHL)
Samuel Morin – Rimouski (QMJHL)

Figure make it's own thread since Raffl outbeat McGinn which not many people thought. Lecav was interviewed and said he felt like he had alot of chemistry with Raffl already. Already banking on a Raffl-Lecav-Simmonds line.

Laughton also still on team.

I don't think Raffl will beat Hartnell or Schenn for one of the LW spots on the top two lines.

Probablly not, but will be an interesting story. After the Rangers game, Vinny says he likes his chemistry with Raffl. Doesnt mention Hartnell or Simmonds.

Yup, pretty much what expected Raffl & Laughton had the inside track.

I think both make the team. Laughton will push out Adam Hall who really hasn't been too impressive IMO, I know people will bring up his face off ability but frankly Lavi doesn't see him like a faceoff specialist like many on here do.

If Couturier can jump up to around 50% on draws then having Hall to take defensive zone faceoffs won't be so important.

Harts with Read and Couts wouldn't be the worst option , and I want Schenn with G.

Chris VandeVelde, Oliver Lauridsen, Ben Holmstrom, Yann Danis and Kris Newbury are among the 17 F, 9 D, 3 G heading to Lake Placid.
-Frank S

Doubt they make it though

EDIT:
Holmstrom, Danis and Newbury all need to clear waivers before they can get sent down, so that may happen tom.

If Couturier improves (he did well last night) and Giroux and Lecavalier are similar to last season there is less of a need for a faceoff specialist.

It's kind of irrelevant where he starts, at some point injuries or cold streaks are going to pop up and lines are going to be tweaked.

i havent been impressed with raffl

Seriously? I thought he has looked pretty good. Guess it is in the eye of the beholder. His 2nd game he was on a checking line, so he didnt get offense going, but his first game he looked extremely good with Vinny and Simmonds. If Im not mistaken lead the team in shots also.

I hope Raffl is good, but I also hope he doesn't take the spot Laughton woulda had.. Any chance Newbury stays up? I really like him as a 4th line guy.

Probably still on the outside looking in.

Who is VandeVelde? Possible 4th line grinder?

Signed with the Phantoms earlier this month. Has limited NHL experience with Edmonton. Played college hockey at North Dakota. I thought he played well last night.

Article from earlier this year while he was with the Oilers:

I agree. I thought he looked good to me also. Plus if Vinny gives him his seal of approval that may carry some weight.

^ Just saw this, too, which perhaps factors into the equation...

As for Ben Holmstrom and Kris Newbury, they both are a mild surprise to still be on the roster, but research also tells me that they have to clear waivers before being sent down to the Phantoms camp, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that were the case and that they join the Phantoms later this week assuming they go unclaimed (Goalie Yann Danis is in the same boat).

Great. Lecavalier is picking favorites in the locker room and ignoring his teammates already!
