If it’s him dialling it back that’s a bad decision. Neil may have dialled it back a little in the preseason as he got older but until he cemented his spot he was an absolute animal in the preseason.

Remember frosted tip Neil?
Yup, I totally understand. I do think that guys who hit aren’t really hitting in preseason though.

Kelly without the hits is a pretty big handicap.

I agree that he didn’t show much last game regardless.

1-Stutzle needs a face-off alternative on his line
2-Thats asking for cap trouble with a 8MM$ centre line down the road (Don't know if it would be possible cap wise)

But other then that it looks like a Cup contending top 9

Agreed for the first point.

2nd point is a very interesting comment that I hadn't considered. Pinto with Motte and Joseph might be a better plan for the long term benefit of the team. A full year of Pinto with Tkachuk could get his production a lot higher and cause trouble for negotiations.

From what Pinto is showing I think he could be in the 8MM club in a couple of years
This could lead to cap struggle
On the other hand he’s a keeper so I dont know how its going to end up

Good problem to have. Norris might end up being the odd man out here.

It is a good problem to have, but I see it slightly different depending on what they do with DeBrincat depending on the yr he has. If they can't afford to re-sign DeBrincat he would be a guy to move for a top 2 RD & I would move Stutzle back to LW & put Pinto as their 2nd line centre. Pinto is going to be a very good faceoff guy which Stutzle is not & Stutzle will still be able to skate all over the ice as he has always done since we drafted him.

Pinto could take the face off then move to the wing as Giroux now does, they have options. I disagree with Norris being the odd man out, not sure why Norris has not convinced people yet that he is a very good player & centre for this team. He has great chemistry with Brady & Batherson & he's signed for the next 8 yrs.

It seems to me to be the obvious move to continue to have the best six forwards on the top two lines even though most are against it. At this point next yr Greig should be NHL ready & could step right into that 3rd line centre spot between Formenton & Joseph or hopefully a better offensive RW option. IMO they are in a very good position with plenty of depth & options to fix several needs.

I predicted this a year ago.

Stutzle the star 2 way 90+ 1st line C.
Pinto the specialist 2 way matchup C.

Good news is, even IF Norris is odd man out, he'll be on a beauty contract to entice teams in a few years (after we bridge Pinto) and is likely a capable top-end 1C in his own right.

We will have options. Maybe one moves to the wing.

As the cap goes up we’ll be able to roll three good lines.

Teams like TB have had to shed talent each year, but we seem to be riding the cap increase with almost all our stars already locked up with current cap numbers.

We’ll be able to add instead of she’d like todays best teams have had to.

One year left of cap crunch for us and then we should be good, as long as we’re able to run a cap team during our window.

Then maybe we’ll gut, save, and rebuild again. Might be the smaller market cycle.

Observations:
Pinto - I thought Pinto had a great night playing the #1 centre spot against a pretty good Jets NHL lineup. Not only is he going to be good defensively & at faceoffs we underestimate how good he can be offensively. Formenton had 32 pts last yr & with Pinto as his centre could easily hit 40 pts this yr, both could. We just need Joseph to pick up his offence on RW & add 30 or 40 pts too.

Kastelic - with Norris, Pinto & Kastelic at centre in future Ott should be very good at faceoffs especially with Giroux taking faceoffs for Stutzle too. Kastelic brings that big strong body that can skate, hit & fight. I really liked watching him & Boucher on the same line. The sooner this guy is in their lineup everyday the better the team will be.

JBD - I thought JBD had a pretty good game defensively, not flashy just steady solid defensive play. He could be the best partner for Sanderson once Hamonic ages out. I also thought offensively he made a couple of perfect wristers to the net about a foot off the ice, perfect for tips that coaches & players alike love.

Motte - he's a much better player than I thought, reminds me a lot of C. Brown without as much playmaking ability. He should be a very good addition for this young team especially on the PK.

Sokolov - I saw two races for pucks last night between Sokolov & two Jets players & it didn't look like Sokolov is as slow as people keep regurgitating. It looked to me like he can keep up with NHL speed just fine, he just needs to create the offence in the NHL that he has in the AHL consistently. I wouldn't mind seeing him on an offenive line.

Reinhardt - he's a bit of an under the radar type player with decent size & a nose for the net. He may have more potential than I initially thought, clearly a bottom six player but should add some depth there.
I was also surprised by Sokolov’s speed. He still needs to improve his first three step quickness and be more physical.

Confirms how I felt about Reinhardt. Stealing Kelly's spot.
But not Kelly’s contract.
