Yes, but Farrell makes RHP look like Dustin Byfuglien in size, and Caufield is a rare gem.

Fingers crossed but we can't have too many of these tiny guys on the same team, unless they are EXCEPTIONAL.
I think one on each line is the max. But if all make it, then we have some good trade bait!

If all of them + Hutson and Harris are regulars, we'll continue to be physically dominated and have tons of injuries.
They won't all be regulars because that would be too many. We'd use some as trade bait.

Probably can't have both Hutson and Harris in the same Dcore. Can't have all of CC, RHP, Farrell, Mesar, Simoneau, and Michkov in the same forward corps. Let the cream rise to the top and trade the rest.

With Farrell we're talking about a 4th round pick. Not someone we passed on the next Eric Lindros to get.

Was at the game. He got more comfortable as the game went. He’s a player that needs puck touches to play his game. Reminds me a lot of caufield when he started, confidence seems like a big factor with him. He definitely needs to build some more strength this summer, and some AHL time certainly won’t hurt him. I have a good feeling about him though.

I think he had his best game yesterday against Boston, made a couple of savant passes and could keep up with the pace, so its encouraging. As mentioned, will need to get stronger, faster in the upcoming years to become the best version of himself and get a regular job at the NHL level. Will likely need to spend some time in Laval next year since I think we have other kids ahead in the depth chart right now, Im thinking of RHP, Heineman, Ylonen especially. That being said, if you give me the choice between Farrell vs Drouin and Hoffman, I take kid, no brainer for me.

  1. He took his last university courses and officially graduated in economics from Harvard University ( we will come back to this lower, but what a fabulous accomplishment! ).
  2. He added six pounds of muscle to his frame.
  3. He replayed at the head and put into practice the various counsel for Canadian coaches received at the end of the most recent campaign, then modified important components of his training, improving its physical attributes at the same time.

« My training was dedicated to muscle mass taking and the development of my gross power. I also worked a lot on the strength of my abs and my center of gravity. Finally, my explosion on skates and my cardiovascular endurance furnished many sessions. « I made sure to eat a lot and I integrated more protein into my diet. All of this, combined with the energy deployed in the gymnasium, allowed me to take six pounds of muscle. I now weigh around 180 pounds. »

can't wait to see him on the ice, I'm hoping for a big season from him. In addition to the mass/strength he's added, I loved his quote,

"“I also appreciated the approach of the coaches. They asked me from the outset not to fear mistakes and not to change my style. Well, it is true that any young player will have a little difficulty applying this advice at the start, but the simple fact of feeling that the coaches were open to daring and did not want to misrepresent me helped a lot."

Love to hear things like that, something in years past we would NEVER of heard from or about the coaching staff.

Yes, that was also something I loved hearing.

Really interested to see if they can make some decisions to add an experienced tactician behind the bench when we are looking to be more competitive.

Or maybe MSL will pick it up as he goes along, but he seems to be the right coach for right now, would be great if he's the right coach at any time.

Are you concerned about his size? I thought his skating looked almost below average in the 6 NHL games I watched. I am just not sold on this player yet. Maybe I see him differently after training camp.

Why doesn’t this guy get much hype? What’s his flaw? On paper he’s a gem

lacks height, mass, strength, for a player his size the skating and speed are not where they need to be.

But it sounds like he worked on the things he badly needed to work on, so we'll see how it goes. What you have is a high IQ, high skilled forward that will get his nose dirty and works hard out there so he can play in all situations.

His size/skating/speed/strength issues are a lot to overcome so anyone that isn't concerned would be crazy despite how smart he is and how skilled plus I really like the way he plays, not Gallagher/RHP level but he's got compete in him for sure.

Just off the top of my head but sadly for him (for now):
-The trade for Newhook
-The emergence of RHP out of nowhere
-Drafting Slaf 1st ov.

Are all things working "against" him for the moment (when it comes to hype as you specifically asked)

Hopefully he has a banger of a season in the AHL, and I would think that he will

But if we're all bring super honest, this will come down to who do they move 'out' when it comes time, Farrell or RHP

And I feel Jordan Harris is in the EXACT same situation on defense too, sadly for him

I'm optimistic that Farrell can carve out a niche in the NHL in spite of his size. His size is definitely a concern and he'll need some time to tool his game around the speed and physicality of the NHL, but I think he has the IQ and skillset to do it.

Farrell may end up being trade fodder for a heavy team needing an infusion of talent with high IQ.

Dreams of Farrell playing with his good buddy, Caufield, should be tempered, especially at 5 on 5. However, Farrell could become a playmaking, PP specialist on the point and could feed his buddy there, for a one-timer, on occasion.

Farrell just does not have the attributes that make Fantilli such a rare catch, for example, and, unfortunately, Montreal is trending towards being too much of a small, skilled lineup.

Yet, we hear some fans eager to trade Anderson for a pick, for example, or to play Newhook on the first line with Caufield and Suzuki.

Or, even, Harvey-Pinard.

Just imagine the playoffs with a roster that boasts this amount of size:

Caufield (5'7"), Suzuki (5'11"), Newhook (5'10"), RHP (5'9"), Farrell (5'9"), Gallagher (5'9"). Definitely a smurf squad.

Keep in mind, that's the team's measurements, often overly generous, compared to reality. Farrell, for example, doesn't really look bigger than Caufield...

Thank God we have Dach (6'4"), Slafkovsky (6'3"), Anderson (6'3") and Monahan (6'2") that can play in the top-9,including two as genuine top-6 Cs/Ws in Dach and Monahan!

Yet, we're unsure what ceiling Slafkovsky will reach and how long Monahan will remain a Hab. Imagine, now, trading Anderson for a pick!?

Dach and Slafkovsky may be the two remaining players with combination of size and skill on the whole starting day lineup next year, and we're unsure about both players' ceilings!

I doubt that, over the long haul, we keep more than two diminutive players in the top-9 from Caufield, Newhook, RHP, Farrell and Gallagher.

Gallagher looks like a keeper, by default, because of the albatross contract. Would he really be a 6.5M fourth liner?

This breaks it down well. Thanks

Yep back to the days of being the smallest, softest team in the league! Exciting!

I don't mind a smurf lineup if it is skilled and plays gritty. I like Farrell a bit more than the average poster. I think he will be a smart top 9 player. RHP, if he can continue to play as he did, will earn his spot. Of course Caufield is here to stay. Newhook we don't really know what we have there yet. I don't have a problem with all these guys in the lineup at once. It really depends how they play.. if they fit on a given line. Do they play defense well enough? Do they provide an offensive spark? Can they hit and forecheck?

If they fill a role better than the other plays, they can all play. I prefer a more highly skilled lineup to a bigger one. Especially if we also have some big guys to mitigate the issues. Slaf and Dach are high impact guys (potentially) that can achieve that. We will need a few more.
