One thing that we need to take into account when judging Couts as second line center is the fact that he is playing on a line with two most dynamic wingers in recent flyers history, whose skillset would make even someone like Getzlaf look tentative and underwhelming out there. And while I like Couts wouldn't object at all if he was to play on the third line. Can you imagine the force that would be Raffl-Couts-Read line? However that would require someone else to play on that second line, someone who is competent passer, is good on zone exits and would let Konecny and Jake do their thing, basically someone with cousins skillset (kinda like that hagelin bonino kesell line). But I don't believe for a second that will happen and short of having PEB neuter our two best gamechangers during even strength Couts is about as good as we can hope for now.
