Scott Wilson doesn’t move the needle one way or the other. He’s not the difference in winning games.

Amerks most likely get a body who can contribute there. Conditioning stint. He comes up in February as they waive Elie. :dunno:

The guy put on a ton of muscle weight last summer to change his role to be more of a checking line player. Nobody knows how he has adjusted to that at all yet. I’m not losing hair over it if he gets claimed, as this appears to just be a gamble, but he seemed like an upgrade over Elie at minimum. But who knows, maybe those 20lbs ruined his game and he needs AHL time to find it. In the end, I’d rather have Smith and 8D than either Wilson or Elie.

Best thing for him. This gives him playing time. Not much room on this roster as players get healthy. More players are going to have to come off the roster when Eichel and Nelson come back if everyone else stays healthy.

If another team claims him, he has to go on their 23, correct?

If that’s the case, no team is picking up a guy who hasn’t played all year and needs game time to get ready and moving their roster around in order to place him on their 23-man roster.

Whereas as others have stated, if we waive Elie, Dallas can claim him and send him back to the AHL.
You're correct re: waiver rules, and FWIW I share your middle-paragraph view on the logic. Today's tweets / posts above my reply seem to validate that view as well.

on Elie---- it first goes to teams who filed claim on him back in October before it goes to Dallas. Buffalo got him because they were 1st in line on claims.

if a team claims he must fgo to the 23 man roster. Yes teams aren't going to pick a player coming off a major injury who hasn't played in 3+ months.

When is the AHL all star break? Buffalo is off for after their western Canada truip through the all star game then have 2 more road games before playing at home in feb.

Once he is health and conditioned after a few weeks in Rochester I wonder what happens with Elie
or Buffalo trades Sobs for a pick opening k' a spot,

The other teams that filed claims back in October are irrelevant as far as waiving Elie to send him down to Rochester. If the Sabres were to waive Elie, and he were to be claimed, then he would have to go on the acquiring team's 23 man roster. There is, however, an exception in the case where Dallas, and only Dallas, places a claim, in which he can be sent down to the AHL without needing to clear waivers. It would still be possible for Dallas to re-acquire Elie on waivers, yet need to keep him on their 23-man roster, if a team with lower waiver priority than Dallas were to place a claim with Dallas having the highest waiver priority of any claiming team.
Whether or not any other team placed on claim on Elie back in October when the Sabres acquired him would only be relevant if the Sabres were to try to trade him this season.

Like Wilson - think he's under rated by most.

Glad he didn't get claimed hopefully he gets fit & is back with the Sabres soon.

Glad we have great attitude players. He changed his weight drastically and style of play to fit a certain role for this team. He’s joined the minors with a positive attitude.

Refreshing alternative to the Cal O’Reilly saga
