I think you see Ceci moved ASAP for Liljegren to take his spot. I think Dubas might be realising something needs to be done ASAP regarding this defense or else we're not going anywhere
Lets hope .... I have to admit I thought Ceci could be a 5th wheel with his size but he has no physical instincts at all ... waste of CAP and not skilled enough for NHL ... big man playing small and although he can skate straight line he has zero lateral skating skills and lacks defensive training

I don’t think muzzin is coming back for a at least another 2 months. Didn’t they say 3 months? He’s got a broken foot
I broke my foot rolling my ankle over the summer it took 2 months for my foot to fully heal. I was out of my walking boot after a month and a half. And mine was a minor break. If Muzzin's is anything worse, maybe he'll be out for longer than 2 months.

That’s what I am thinking too but he did continue to the game so it might not be as bad as we think

He's week to week. Generally 4-6 weeks.

It's been about 3 already. So he's likely 1-3 weeks from returning. Given he hasn't skated, likely closer to 3.

I wonder why they dont/wont give Liljegren a shot?
Liljegren needs an extended stretch of knowing what it feels like to dominate offensively in the AHL. Players who miss that opportunity lose creativity at the next level. Especially a guy like Liljegren whose play is hugely impacted by his confidence, moreso than other prospects i've seen.

He's only been at that level for a couple of months now. I have no problem letting him marinate.

Good.

Can't be worse than the bullshit last night.

Defence has always been this team's problem. Dubas needs to address this somehow.

Feels like for about 5 years now... probably more... its always been a huge problem that doesn't go away.

Hopefully the young guys coming up ... help to avoid trading a big offensive piece away.

Maybe in off season...

Lilly and Sandin up...

Get pietrangelo

Healed Rielly... Pietrangelo
Dermott... Holl
Sandin... cheap UFA or Lilly

Something like that

How do we afford Pietrangelo though, he's gonna fetch 9M plus. Also i don't get why he would leave the Blues, it's not like he's on a bad team, i think he stays in St.Louis. Assume we did sign him, how many pieces are we getting rid of to fit him on the roster ? we'd have like 40M tied up in 4 players, almost 50M in 5 if we include Nylander.

Who cares about burning a year, it’s pure madness to think you can inject two rookie D men next year and be successful. Get the kids some time NOW.

Now move Barrie and bring up Lil.
We're in cap hell. Dubas doing this and burning their ELCs would show his plan failed. And then he has to burn a year of assets to attempt to correct it? sigh.

Need to move Ceci first.

It is very unlikely that the Leafs are going to trade Ceci (or any other D in the lineup) without first being pretty certain that the replacement is ready. And they don't need to move anyone first. They have the LTIR cap space available right now and it is just going to waste. They could easily pull a RHD out of the lineup for a game or two (most players have a nagging minor injury at this point in the season) and give Lilly some time to see how he does. If he does well enough then they can look for a trade for Ceci. If not then you are not pushing someone into a roster spot before they are ready.

I can only imagine how mad you are about the ELC years of Matthews and Marner that Lou burned.

What’s the alternative? You really want to start next year with two greenhorns on D? At least get one in here and there, we need to get these kids some seasoning because the Dubas cap structure almost demands they play full time next year.

Not saying itll ever happen... but Ceci can be replaced by pretty much anyone... that's 4.5 right there... Muzzin is around 4... Barrie is probably gone. It adds up. Just spitballing.

Just tired of this D. It needs big time fixing. Yes its forwards getting back etc... but its still a mediocre d.

Muzzin I'd be fine keeping. Obviously I don't know the solution... but it isn't what they've been doing, that's forsure.

I don't get why Rielly gets a pass. He's been worse than Barrie this season.
Be real man be real. Barrie is a complete and total tire fire in his own end. He is no idea what he is doing and is looking to get outta there quick. He is a PP specialist. and a guy who can join the rush. Thats it. Thats all he does. I thought Gards was a scaredy cat until I watch Barrie. Barrie takes it to another level. He is in total hit prevention mode.
