assuming Sheary and Dumo are signed, our current roster still has a good shot at winning the best division in hockey. Let's go get us a nice 3C to add to that

Is everyone really comfortable giving Sheary a short term deal near 4 mil? Takes him closer to free agency and as a result, of less value.

I defended him the past couple seasons, but that's with him at near league minimum. Healthy scratching a guy making that money is totally different. Especially when we still need our center depth restocked.

JR seems very patient and I'm sure he has his eye on 3 to 5 centers. He's probably just waiting to see how things shake out with Dumo and Sheary first. Hell, he might be waiting to get Sheary's deal done so he can package him for said 3C. I think he's also keeping a close eye on the Duchene situation. Sakic will crack sooner or later. With a valuable asset bordering on being furious with how his GM is handling his situation, I'm sure Sakic is feeling the pressure more than ever. He knows he has offers on the table, and the longer he waits the more angry Duchene becomes, and the more teams pull their deals because they went elsewhere. Even if we don't get him, and I think it's a big stretch, I think Duchene still gets moved before October.

my favourite rossi article may have been alluded to in the old thread. For anyone who hasn't read it, it's amazing.

Is that the one about the Devils being like 5 years ahead of the Pens? Yeah, I won't even click it to give him hits.

You should have seen how butt hurt he was when Kunitz signed in Tampa.

He proceeded to list all the old guys we "lost" - MAF, Kunitz, Daley, Hainsey, etc...and talks about how it will be impossible for us to threepeat and how we are taking a huge step back.

He's mad because those are the last of the old regimes doings. We can finally turn the page from the Shero days, IMHO.

It's gonna be tough to three-peat, but we have a good amount of guys coming back, and we're getting one Kris Letang (for a handful of games before he goes down again). I think anyone that things we're out of contention based on losing MAF, Kunitz, Daley, Hainsey, etc. should sorta just not be taken seriously. Which is great in Rossi's case, because he's a ****ing loser.

I don't see how things could be any harder than they were this past season. It is truly amazing what they accomplished. I remember thinking how amazing it was beating Washington in 2016 when Tanger was suspended. Then we won a cup without him for the entire playoffs. Unreal.

Pretty sure the 3C will be acquired during the offseason. Otherwise, you're looking at Guentzel in that spot.

Yep. I just don't know what is going to change at this point. He should just pull the trigger on something.

Not happening. I think you'll see Rowney and Bleugers before Guentzel there.

I tried to get a cached version of that so I can read its wonder again without giving clicks but for some reason my company blocks the cached version. Blah.

I can live with 1 x 4m. Either he's worth it or he's an overpayment and his wages get more reasonable from there on. 2 x 4m would be mental but I assume the team would never do it.

I can also live with him getting traded out to help solve 3C if its a fair deal too. The more pay he gets, of course, the easier that is to live with.

Yeah I'd be fine with that, as long as it's not on a long deal. I wanted him at 3 years at $3.33 million, so I'm not going to say no to 2 years at $4 million. I never expected him to be in the long term plans here due to who else was in the organization, so him wanting shorter term wouldn't scare me.

I think Sullivan is very high on a 59-87-43 combo. We all assume Sheary is not long term but that chemistry could make them look at it differently. They need to identify why Sheary fell apart and if that can be easily addressed. It makes me nervous. When he is on, he is a damn good player.

It's tough. Do I think he's worth $4mil in the regular season? Yes, probably. Do I think he's worth $4mil in the playoffs? No, absolutely not.

So there has to be balance on RS and PO performances. That should push it to $3mil ish. 2yrs,$6mil - GTG. Beyond that I think they are misvaluing him.

Duchene. Either Sakic budges, or the market decides he won't and moves on.

And it is also possible that settled RFA salaries changes things as well.

That is my thought. JR is known to overpay when he wants a particular player. Reaves as an example, but that has been his reputation for years. Sakic must be trying for a ridiculous return that not even JR will pay the price.
