One draft floor rumour had the Leafs putting Kapanen on the market for a team that would want Zaitsev. Pittsburgh and Kris Letang was one possibility that “makes sense” according to a source.
if the implication is Kapanen and Zaitsev for Letang, fire JR right now
I'd have to pass on that deal. As much as I like KK I say hell no.
I'm hoping that's all it is.That article makes it sound like Dubas thinks it makes sense. No mention of JR
From the sounds of the article, don't expect a big Penguins trade at draft, unless the Penguins do something to acquire a higher pick. Sounds like Rutherford is listening and laying ground work while at the draft, but at the moment doesn't expect a big trade to happen over the next two days.”
JR terrifies me but trading Letang for anything besides a massive overpayment goes beyond any semblance of logic or rationality.
And yeah, you'll probably reply "well jr isnt logical or rational". But this goes beyond the Johnson contract or any other crazy crap he's done.

So when would it happen? What makes sense? Sometime after everything settles after July 1?
I just had a terrifying thought. What if JR deals Letang for that package and then thinks he's going to replace him with someone like Myers.
I agree. I hesitate to say it but there's no way even JR takes that bad of a deal. He's not even really been a horrible trading GM, anyway.
I mean... unless somehow, some way the team really, really, really thinks Zaitsev is something he's not? I wouldn't think that's possible but this team sure seems to have some bizarre ideas as to what constitutes a quality defensive corps...
