Kane is having a monster season, but no pending UFA with his baggage is bringing back a young D with pedigree.

It’d be a 1st and some player with term we’re amenable to moving to clear cap space.

According to the insiders Edmonton is looking for a def, Chiarelli was at the CBJ game the other night apparently looking at Murray.

Both the pens and cbj are probably looking for a center.

It might be a coincidence, but Maatta played a couple more mins last night then he has been playing.

Not a big RNH fan. Not Maatta’s biggest fan but i wouldn’t move him for RNH.

Id take a chance on Galchenyuk. Go big for a guy like Patches. Or hope Bozak would find chemistry with Kessel again.

Something is brewing.

Excellent. Get it done, Jimmy. This team desperately needs a big shake-up trade.

No reason to give up a D man on a multiyear contract for a rental. That's a stupid use of assets. But Cole plus a 2nd or something for Kane would be great, assuming we can't unload Hags. I wouldn't want Scandella over Maatta

Alternatively, Reinhart for Sheary would be fairly comparable, and he has the flexibility to play both wing and center....

I think Edmonton is also looking for wingers with speed.

A Hags for Strome deal makes some sense.

Your underachieving player for our underachieving player.

That would be a lot like the Perron for Hags deal a couple years ago.

What about Sheary+Cole+1st/2nd? Cole was mysteriously scratched yesterday. Highly doubt it, but just for discussion reasons.

If Chiarelli was in Boston to scout the Pens, I doubt we'd scratch one of the players he was there to see.

Good point. That was for discussion reasons though. Honestly I think Maatta+Hagelin for RNH+a pick or defensemen is a good deal.

Strome would just seem like shuffling deck chairs - he's not fixing our 3C problem. If we're dealing with Edmonton, I'd have to assume it's RNH. He's had a bounceback year and is even above 50% in the dot this season.

Maybe Cole was scratched the other day for us to give Maatta a few extra minutes.

Hags to the Oilers makes wayyyyy too much sense, but salary would have to be coming back sadly. They really want speed and need speed. Pens should be interested in an idea that may bring back an equally disappointing player. Strome is for sure that guy. I know it's shuffling the cards a bit, but it does seem to make sense.

I'll wait and see what happens, though.

If Maatta were to get a few extra mins, why not just play Cole, but a few minutes less? No need to flat out scratch him

Why are people okay with trading Maatta? Are you ignoring how a majority of the Penguins defensemen this year have been bad? Maatta has been the Penguins best defenseman so far this year, it makes absolutely no sense to trade him unless a better D is coming back.

A 3C isn't even nearly a big enough need right now for the Penguins to trade Maatta. LW is even smaller of a need than 3C is. You don't trade a 23 year old top-4 defenseman signed long term for a 3rd line center you don't have a huge need for or a top-6 LW that you don't have a need for.

If you want to trade for RNH, the only logical pieces you can move are Hagelin and Sheary, and Kane would be purely draft picks. You don't trade from a position of clear need, which is what defense is for the Penguins, for a position of more than a want than a need in 3C and a position of no need in LW.

Hagelin isn't getting us Strome or RNH by himself. Hagelin would be the add in from us. The Oilers are looking for scoring help on the wings. Its Sheary, Sprong, Jake, maybe Rust that the Oilers would be after.

Cole and our 2nd isn't getting us a stud player either. That is basically our 2nd with Cole thrown in for salary. Our 2nd doesn't get us Kane. Our 2nd got us Hainsey last year.

People need to start accepting a few realities around here.

No matter how much I'd like to get rid of Hags, I'd be surprised if this was the deal. We'd be losing even more speed from the lineup, which is not going help us play Sully's system. Strome is not quick. He's a better shooter however. Also, he's better on the RW, which we don't need. If we got him, we'd be playing him at center, which is not his best position . Also, I can't see a one-for-one deal here, and I wouldn't want to give up anything more than Hags to take a flyer on Strome....

I wonder if we see some more 3 team deals in the future. The salary cap complicates things. JR knows everybody, would not surprise me to see a JR, Botterill, Chiarelli 3 way.
