Like the player, hate the term, don't mind the money.

All things consider, Okposo for 6>>>>Stamkos for 12, AINEC

$6m is fine. I've already said my piece on giving him term like this. At this point, it's done, so I'll worry about the risk later. For now we got a legit winger for Eichel or ROR. No more having to listen to people rationalize about how someone like McGinn can be a good fit for them.

I think people will be extremely frustrated with the consistency aspect. He has frustrated me as a casual observer since he came to NY.

6 a year is perfectly reasonable. If he falls off at the end we should be able to move him.

If they get fowler this is a team that can win a round in the playoffs.

Glad that it's heavily frontloaded. Helps alleviate risk on the term a bit by giving flexibility should it come to a point where we need to move him.

Didn't want him, still don't.

If this was maybe a 3-4 year deal, then I could stomach this better.

I guess I'll learn to like him.

Yeah, Pegula bucks allows TM to structure any big deals so they are very movable on the back-end. Hopefully any NMC or NTC is limited.

To be clear: I don't hate the player. I hate the annual hit, and I get WILD when skilled players who fail to fully put it together manage to break the bank.

I hope to GOD that he plays well and proves me wrong.

No matter the deal, he is a top-6 option and adds offensive skill to the wings, which we needed.

If you were set on going to UFA for a winger, this might be the best deal of the day. It's nice to see a guy who might've been able to get more actually sign a reasonable deal with Buffalo.

In the Panderverse
Pros:

- We get another PP option on the wing
- he's a FANTASTIC lockerroom guy
- signing a guy atop the heap is a HUGE statement leaguewide
- extremely skilled, great hands
- ability to be strong in possession

CONS:

- doesn't play big like his size would indicate
- extremely inconsistent
- decision-making goes up and down, specifically on the breakout and in the neutral zone
- long term may be a total crap deal at the end
- he doesn't tilt the ice like a 7yr/$40+m player should

If it's indeed $6m frontloaded, I can live with that.

He's also durable. Doesn't miss a lot of games.

I like that he'll be tradeable back home to MIN after BUF wins a couple cups.

So given his role with Nielsen, he's an option in the RW spot beside ROR. It also could be Eichel -- move Sam back to ROR's wing or the option of plugging him back in the middle. I like the flexibility it affords.
