They talked about the state of the Eichel trade talks around the 20:00 mark.

He said one person told EF that the ask was so big that he wouldn't believe it but he couldn't tell him what it is yet. EF checks in every day to see if the source can share it yet.

EF is hearing that at least one team is ready to pull out of trade talks over concerns that Eichel not having had surgery yet will mean that he will miss part of the season recovering from surgery.

Of course its huge. If the Sabres are not complete idiots, they will either demand full value or not trade him till his injury issues are resolved.
At the end of the day nobody is going to trade for Eichel anyways if the prognosis for his health isn't good enough. And the Sabres will have to share his medical data before any trade anyways. So realistically there will never really be an injury "discount" unless the Pegulas are complete morons and trade him just because they are sick of the drama no matter the return. Its either a team taking a bit of a chance on Eichel (say if it looks like he has a 95% chance of full recovery) and maybe paying a smidge less due to him not being completely healthy just yet (but on his way) or the Sabres will just keep him, let him recover and get back on the ice to show everyone how good he still is and then cash in on him.

Never made sense to me anyways that people thought that there would be some sort of massive injury discount with a guy with 5 years left on his contract.

The only thing is that we have yet to see any real deadline pressure being applied to the Sabres yet.

If they want a high '21 1st in the deal, they have a little over two weeks to make a deal. So, we are more likely to see movement from the Sabres ask side the closer we get to the draft.

Yeah but why would they?
They already have the #1 pick and honestly the 2022 draft looks so so much better than the 2021 draft. Especially at the top. 2023 looks very strong as well. They also still have Reinhart to trade for what will very likely include another 1st as well (if they really want 2021 picks which IMO they shouldn't).
If anything, the Sabres should ask for non-2021 picks....

With 2021 first round picks they have certainty. What if they move their guys for 2022 picks and the team acquiring (Reinhart for example) makes the playoff and go deep?

Take Montreal for example - Everyone expected them to be a lottery team and they will end up with the 31st pick.

The Sabres might have a Moneyball view of things and feel that other teams are undervaluing the '21 Draft. So, they might feel like making moves for '21 picks is the smarter play because other teams are asking for less when compared to say the '22 draft.

Also, there is some pressure to move Eichel this off season if they are done with him. He has a $7.5M bonus payment and his NMC kicks in on the first day of the 22-23 league year (July TBD, 2022).

Yeah, Buffalo's ask looks like a bluff to me. They are probably figuring Dolan ordered the Rangers (it's his toy after all) to get Eichel, but the Rangers don't have to be stupid about it.

Chances are that Eichel gets dealt to a contender. Said contenders pick won't be as valuable as say the Sharks or Red Wings would be next year or so. If they can get Eichel to a bottom feeder, Sabres strike gold.
Key would be sending him to a team where the wheels are just about to fall off.

Like Ottawa giving up their 1st after making the conf finals, or San Jose aftee getting Karlsson.

With scouts saying 2021 is a weaker draft then 2022, Buffalo should not be stressed over missing out on that 2021 pick.

Great news. Eichel should not just be traded because. It should be a massive haul or nothing at all. We are all fine with 5 years of Eichel. The NMC means nothing. If he wants out he waives, if he vetoes the trade the Sabres are "stuck" with an Elite talent for the rest of his contract

That will be great if Habs win out, and take the Cup from TBL's grasp

I personally wouldn’t mind

12/15 “experts” predicted Montreal wouldn’t make the playoff. If they don’t make the playoff then they’re a lottery team since they are part of the.. lottery

I believe the poster was being facetious who originally brought this up; but could you imagine Eichel sitting the year for medical reasons then being traded at the start of the playoffs to magically recover?

Wow, talk about loading up for a cup run.

And what's that going to do to the locker room when people who do not want to be there are forced to be there? Isn't the situation in Buffalo toxic enough already?

Don't doubt it and they have no reason to not ask for a huge return. if they don't get it they just keep him until someone pays up.
