You want a player who doesn't want to pay the price? Who is lazy? Go get him, he won't resign here anyways.

Vancouver lacks a one shot scorer. Ryder scored 35 goals last year and was on pace for 30 this year, he would have been the Canucks highest scorer this year. The Canucks also lack another Right Hander in the top 6. If he comes cheap I think the Canucks take a shot on him, but I'd be scared to give him 4+ because of the reasons you've stated. Thanks for the input!

Umm, Ryder wasn't bad with us...he was what he's always been - a streaky scorer who can be effective with the right linemates.

21 points in 27 games is pretty much the pace he averages at his best.

Aren't the Canucks already in salary cap hell without overpaying for another veteran

Meh not really. Ballard and Luongo are not going to be back next year they will either be traded for non cap assets or bought out. Guys like Raymond and Roy won't be retained so if Ryder were to sign for anything under 4 we'd be able to fit him in.

If I were to compare Ryder to a former Canuck, I think the closest comparable would be mikael samuelsson, without the occasional physical dimension that samuelsson had, but better finish.

If he goes to the highest bidder, he's definitely going north of 4 million. I agree that he could be a nice fit. Canucks could use a couple wingers in their top 6, especially with booth being so unreliable health wise. However, he's pretty much useless if he isn't scoring, which would make an interesting dynamic with torts

During his first 20 games with us, Ryder had a ppg pace (.5 gpg).
I don't remember many complaints during that period.
Almost everyone was saying that we won on that trade against Cole.

When the team went in trouble at the end of the season he had one point in 7 games.
And in PO, he did two points in 5 games.
Despite all this production, Ryder ended up with -2 (11 ppp).

Ryder is a sniper. He did 25 goals per season on average.
But he is not good on defense.

Seems to me that Ryder was traded against Cole was that we would have been too tight on SCap in 2013-14.
Probably not rehired because we need bigger players in our top-9.

Now, despite all his flaws, you will probably not sign him under 3M.
Not sure you have the space to hire him.

With SCap going down and all those BO players added to the UFA, I do expect the contracts to go down next season.

There will be a lot of players still available coming September.

Put Ryder with your best playmaking center and he will do nothing but pump in the goals.

He is extremely talented. However, his success is totally dependent upon his center getting him the puck when he skates to an opening.

Would love to see Ryder play for a team that I dont hate.......the Canucks.

Keeping him would be a lateral move at best, and with the salary he will request, would probably hamper our own RFAs resigning next year. I don't think Bergevin had any intention to keep him when he made the trade (barring a Conn Smythe-like playoffs performance).

It depends. He really has to be in the right place, right time. Sure he finds himself some space (moreso than he used to), but only once the play is in the zone. He was great just after coming over, but then he looked like a 50 year old vet. Couldn't keep up with the pace, no intensity and sooooooo slow. Clearly East-West/PP specialist and he just can't do it consistently. Put the puck on his stick in a good shooting spot, you've probably got a goal. Ask him to do some work...not gonna do much and sometimes all 5 players need to do some work when the going gets tough.

Funny that Kesler2Burrows asked about him cuz I'd much rather have Raymond's speed and work ethic the way we are being built (before you say it, Bickell is 10 times faster than Ryder).

I'm pretty sure Ryder will cost around 5 mil given a weak UFA market and his production the last 2 years. Something around 18-21 mil for 4 years.

If having a good, quick shot is the definition of extremely talented then I would agree with you but he isn't a great skater, he's not a good puck carrier, he is a liability in his own end, he is not physical and he is not a particularly hard worker.

However, he has a quick, accurate release.

I wish him well but I won't miss him.

No wonder Letang thinks he is worth $60 million over 8 years. :)
