Colorado could use him back, but I got a lot of crap thrown at me for including Timmins in the idea on our board lol.

Buffalo isn’t interested in prospects

Buffalo should look at St.Louis' prospects they have some of the best forward prospects in the league. Their defense prospects like Walman Schmaltz are ready to be in the NHL.
Plus they have one of the best goalie prospects in the AHL with Husso. But yah Buffalo wouldnt be interested :naughty:

Parayko

ROR has 5 years of term / prime hockey left. He’s a Toews/Bergeron level player on a shitty team.

Buffalo is not trading him for an HFboards platter of hopes and potential.

Top pair D, in prime, with term.

Everything else is a non starter

This or making a small add for an Ekmann-Larsson was my thought. But if he is moved it needs to be for someone on the elite level. O’Reilly is an elite possession player.

Today, you were taught that Buffalo is not trading ROR for anything less than a top pairing defensemen. Don't be mad.

Teams don't trade high end, long term assets based on some perceived value that you can meet by putting a handful of futures in a bucket.

If they do look to trade him for help on defense. It isn't likely to end up a proven guy. Something like Z, or Girard is probably going to have to be the main piece IMO. Maybe someone with a few NHL games, but generally unproven with high upside. Even that is difficult. That's just the nature of things right now.

The nature of things, is your not getting 5 years of prime age 1st line center play for futures...

I like ROR but his contract is on the ugly side and the Jets likely can’t afford his cap hit.....but he would be a good 2C/3C on the Jets.

ROR’s contract is great the cap hit isn’t. The majority of the money has already been paid out. He gets huge bonus every 7/1, and only makes around 1 million per year and those 12 million July 1st are all gone. However his deal is still 7.5m vs the cap.

Im a big fan of O'Reilly but St.Louis would never trade you Parayko for him. OEL from Arizona perhaps if they think they cannot resign him.

Buffalo fans, am I close here (I know it's futures but still)?

Ottawa 1st round pick, 2018 2nd and Vladislav Kamenev

Ottawa 1st round pick 2019 is total mystery. If they stink again it could easily be top five, especially if Karlsson is traded in the summer. I think it's 99% surely top 10 at least, possibly even Hughes.

2018 is to provide a good prospect for the future

Vladislav Kamenev is NHL ready prospect 21 year old big bodied center that was PPG in AHL this year.

Contenders couldn't careless about the dollars.....all that matters is the ugly cap hit. Plus I should add all teams will not like the lock out & buy out proof factor on the contract. Not a good contract

We’ll take A Seth Jones... and if not, we’ll happily keep ROR for the next 5 years

Pretty much. As a neutral fan it seems like a bad idea for Buffalo to trade O'Reilly... UNLESS the return is Seth Jones-like. They desperately need a top-4 RD, if not two, but there's likely other ways to get that. Adding a veteran shouldn't be out of the equation.

I still don't know if losing ROR to gain a top pairing defenceman helps Buffalo. We're adding to our crappy defence and taking away an excellent center to our already crappy top 6.

Seth Jones as he was at the time of the trade, sure.

Seth Jones as he is now? Absolutely not a snowball's chance in hell of anyone ever doing that ever.

Recognize the difference.

Jones wasn't a "top pair D, in prime, with term" when he was traded for RyJo.

That's not the primary issue, his contract is mostly in signing bonuses, making it buyout proof. If ROR declines (and he already has 8 NHL seasons of a grinding game under his belt), the team holding his contract is basically screwed with nearly 7 million in dead space for the life of the contract.

He also gets the 5 million bonus during the inevitable 2022 lockout.

It's worthwhile to trade him now because he still has a ton of value as a hockey player. Even a single down year can make that contract immobile.

However what about Carolina or the Islanders? Those teams might like a deal that doesn’t require a ton of real cash.

Correct. He was a near certain / elite young NHLer. A top 5 under 21 NHLer.

So while the ask for ROR is a comparable (top pair, prime aged, term based, defensemen), we would also accept Ivan Provorov.
