This is completely false.
It’s definitely not. The only time Kesler appeared at all that game was with about 9 minutes left in the third when he hit the jets and tried to go around a defenseman. He was barely noticeable that entire game outside of that moment.

You mean LTIR? No way he leaves that much money on table.

He has 20.25 mil in actual salary coming to him. Also, he still has an NMC for 2 more years. Ducks could buy him out. It would reduce his cap hit to 1/3 but double the term. Maybe more importantly though, they would not need to protect him for the Seattle draft. Of course, he might waive his NMC for the draft too.

Guess I'm one of the few non-Canucks/Ducks fans to say it, but I f***ing loved Kesler as a player. One of those classic "love him if he's on your team, hate him if he's not players" because of how effective he was. Respected his work ethic and would have gladly taken him on my team any day.

In 2011 everyone and their mother had Kesler ahead of Bergeron.

Lol he’s gotten to you so bad you have to make up complete lies.....

You never want to hear that a guy has a career ending injury, especially when it might linger past the end of his career but I cant say I will be sad to see him gone from the NHL

It stings me in no way that you called Ryan Kesler a joke or an ass.

Do I wish he was still effective. Yes obviously, but it is hilarious to see how angry everyone in here is.
He had one good year...but when he spoke, you would have thought he was a great player, he oozes arrogance...I love when these guys get their a$$es handed to them. Absolutely love it.........garbage player who thought he was all that.

Reminder: there's a differencing between disliking a player and wishing injury on him. Be careful with how you respond because the latter warrants an infraction.
To say I dislike him as a player would be an understatement, but wishing injury is a step too far.

Can I still say good riddance to him without getting a strike? ;)

He had a # of good years, calling him a garbage player is literally just you being a child that got their jmmies rustled by keslers on nice product. Over the last decade+ kesler was arguably the most annoying player to play against.

I wasn't aware of how bad his injury situation was. I gained a ton of respect for him after reading his story. Congrats to him for reaching 1000, now get the help needed to live a better life going forward.
Yeah it was pretty hard to watch him play the last 2 seasons... I assume he made the call to play it out until 1000 games, I think the milestone meant a lot to him personally, but like you said hopefully he can get the doctor help he needs and live a healthy rest of his life.

For a guy who is in as great shape as Kesler the fact that he has pain doing basic things is sad... don’t press your body any further. Litr.

If he gets the surgery he will retire and not get paid. He cannot go on LTIR if he is never expected to reasonably return. Same thing happened to Horton, just that he never got his surgery yet because the Leafs essentially told him if he does he is not getting paid by them.

Huh? There is no such rule. Many players have been on LTIR and never expected to return.

Pretty sure you should go and think when posting.

You believed Sedin did more heavy lifting than Kesler? You are legimately trolling hard now.
You can’t argue with a brick. It’s obvious that poster is wrong but no point in arguing with blind hate.

Kesler was a great hockey player and a fierce competitor, those who slammed him in this thread should feel shame...

Honestly still speechless from reading this thread before finally some actions were taken.

nvm, shouldn't say that. Dogs are too important to some.

Honestly, people here on this board love using the words retirement and bust so freely. It’s frustrating to see that some people have no understanding of hockey related injuries.

The guy seriously has issues doing day to day stuff. He pushed hard last summer just to make it to 1000 games played. He’s done physically which is all due to him playing hockey so he’s going to get paid. He’ll collect it via ltir. Anaheim should have insured his contract so either they or another team can take the cap hit so long as they are willing to pay out the non insured portion of his contract which is likely 20% if Hossa and Bolland are typical of nhl deals.

I didn’t know such a thing was possible. Is there any previous examples of this you could think of?

Thanks for the memories dude, you will echo on in eternity.

Seriously though never liked him much as a player but I hope he's able to get back to some normalcy in his daily life. That's no joke.

Hated him so much as a player since he was part of the Canucks era that dominated us and the Ducks era that we just couldn't beat. Elite 2C in his prime, elite bitch too though. Hope him the best in retirement and the best in recovery.

Hip replacement surgery means he's done. It also means his quality of life suffers greatly. At least he made his millions but I wish that on nobody.

If he's retiring, he's LTIRetiring. Whoever claimed earlier in the thread that you can't go on LTIR if you have career-ending surgery doesn't know what they're talking about, and I can't find any source anywhere for the Leafs supposedly threatening to not pay Horton if he got career-ending surgery (and there's absolutely no chance that would ever fly with the NHLPA). LTIR exists for the express purpose of teams dealing with long-term injuries. Long Term Injured Reserve.

He'll get every penny of his contract even if never plays another game. He's absolutely 100% injured if you read the Athletic story about him from a few weeks back. There's no reason whatsoever for him to retire for real. All he has to do to collect $21m is report to camp and take (and fail) a physical every year.

Again it's strange to me to see people happy that a guy is suffering from something that could significantly affect his quality of life when he has a young family
