Schultz wasn't as good offensively and was smaller and softer. He also definitely didn't have the same clapper. You are not replacing Bouchard's offense period. If/when Ekholm is recovered and we have a decent goalie we won't see every mistake end up in the back of our net and he'll get more grace from the fans IMO. Very few players are legit threats to score from the point consistently, the last that we had was Souray. Don't be stupid and trade this one away.

  • Friedman says Oilers are looking around for players, mostly goalies
  • Pickard is not a long-term solution, and he has no doubt the Oilers are hunting for a goalie
  • He said Oilers can’t wait anymore and good teams go out to make a big move when they need it. That’s where the Oilers are since it’s their biggest season in a long time
  • Friedman says the Oilers aren’t done. They are looking for things to do. He said they aren’t saying “Okay good Campbell is gone. We’re done.”
  • There may be a deal where the Oilers can do both (get a goalie and a player)
  • He believes goaltending has rocketed to the top of the Oilers list
  • Oilers may be looking at a team where they can get a goalie and a player
  • Edmonton is looking at every option and been calling teams. Holland said if you’re going to give up key pieces for a goalie, you’d better be sure he’s better than what you have. But there is also so much at stake that Oilers may just throw that out the window
  • Friedman’s concern with Binnington is St. Louis needs a goalie in return, so he wonders what they are thinking as a replacement
  • Friedman says Jake Allen makes more sense in terms of salary cap
  • They’ve spoken to both St. Louis and Montreal
  • Friedman says the guy the Oilers have to go for is Jusse Saros
Thanks for posting all this.

I agree with Friedman...Saros has to be the target.
Its amazing to me that Saros is as good as he is being only 5'11".

Schultz went on to win 2 Cups as a bottom pairing Dman, with some offensive upside. Edmonton slotted him too high in our DCore and he wasn't ready then, and never was ready to be a top pairing D. Edmonton's fans are crazy, they're passionate, they're fanatics, and for the most part, they're knowledgable as well.
First cup yes second cup he was clocking close to 20 minutes with Letang out.

Its not an easy trade to make for sure but if they get back a player like Saros this team would finally have a legit starting goalie (borderline elite). He is only 28 years old too which means he has at least (barring injury) 5+ years left in the tank.
They also wouldnt miss a beat offensively with Barrie on the back end. Barrie even ran an elite PP prior to being dealt away.
Barrie isnt a great defender but he is better than Bouchard so the back end gets a boost that way as well. Barrie worked well with Nurse too so thats an additional plus as it moves Ceci down to at least the second pairing.
A deal involving these 3 players along with Campbell (+) makes this a much better hockey team for the next 2 years.
IMO thats really all we should be concerned about considering the window left with McDavid and Draisaitl.

Just posted a new thread but will reply to this before locking it. Saros would be great but IIRC is an UFA very soon. Barrie isn't getting any younger and has difficulty against bigger players. As good as he was on our PP Bouchard is better. Bouchard is also a better goalscoring threat and has his entire prime ahead of him (odd for an old man!). We'd still lack a top pairing RHD after such a trade and other than a 1C, that is probably the toughest position to fill in hockey. You only trade Bouchard for a clear upgrade IMO, someone that has a similar offensive skillset but with less brain farts defensively. Everyone worried about him getting paid in a few years wouldn't be worrying if we didn't have Mr. $9.25.
