I think he may eat around the edges in the offseason, stay under the cap, and then swing hard at the deadline.

This would be sensible and acceptable, but obviously wouldn't appease HFOil in the short term.

We have no cap and we have to open cap for raises for guys on the team already.
We have no draft picks
We have a pretty crap pool of prospects overall.
Nothing of note will happen until as suggested by others the trade deadline next year when he might trade all our picks for help.

Needs - Top 6 RW, Improve bottom 6, Top 4 RD.
One could argue goaltending but I think Campbell will bounce back.
With limited cap space and seemingly limited creativity Holland will be hard pressed to improve the team this off season and we might have to wait for the TDL to see any major moves.
I will also argue that Woody has to grow in a big way as head coach, his flaws showed through in the playoffs but those that know him say he will take those lessons to heart. I hope so as mediocre coaching can derail anything Holland does in the off season. But that is a conversation for later in the season.
Oilers must finish 1st in the division this year, 2 series vs LA left us battered and bruised. Need Vegas and LA to beat each other silly instead.

If anything, it’s good news as it shows a continued lack of direction and despite their entire core either already gone or wanting out, they refuse to rebuild.
Yeah like how Holland fixed our goaltending last summer and it absolutely wasn't an issue after that.

Biggest need is a top pair RHD, and the market right now is completely devoid of that player. At the deadline the Oilers acquired the best defenseman that’s been traded in the last 14 months or so. Was Ekholm available last summer? No, he wasn’t.
You're right, actually. Would have been better off if Holland didn't make a swing at Campbell last year and went with a lesser option in hindsight once he knew what he had in the season.

Ah yes, issues like goaltending that have deep sixed this team year after year in the playoffs.
Holland goes gets guys and pays a total premium price for them.
Holland hands them too rich multi year contracts.
Holland wants to get rid of half these guys after a year or so so he can get new non needle movers.
'no major consequence' our prospect pool is trash becasue he has trade so many picks for guys who in fact have not hleped the team.
am I the only one seeing that we need help on our RW? In our top six there is no one. Hyman is right handed but he plays LW
People are acting like if we don't make moves we won't make the playoffs.
We are virtually guaranteed to be in a comfortable playoff spot by the deadline even if we do nothing and people here don't seem to be used to that. It makes nothing but sense to see which teams fall off and more players become available in season that weren't in July.

The only time Holland has done anything remotely like this is with Ekholm. It's quite hilarious to suggest that the teams issues have all been solved given that they've won nothing of importance during Holland's tenure.

Was Evander Kane available in summer 2021? Well he was, but at $7M/year....
Too bad we didn't go all out to get a lesser player and deal assets for them that summer. Would have worked out great.
