The current CBA is a 10-year deal, expiring after the 2021–22 season. The NHL can choose to opt out of the CBA on September 1, 2019 (expiring in 2020). The NHLPA can choose to opt out of the CBA on September 19, 2019.

If it's going to happen 2019/20 would be the best time for us.

I think it's better for the team and JP if he signs in Europe. He gets to develop in an easier league and up his trade value.

Even to start, the kid needs to show that double hip surgery hasn't ruined one of the only attributes people still think he had, his skating. I would be concerned in every way possible if I was trading for him right now, his hockey sense, his skills, his attitude, and just his ability to skate.

The trip to Europe would definitely be best for everyone. And hey, maybe he does good and fires his agent too :)

Has a player similar to Puljujarvi ever upped his trade value by going back to Europe to play?
