Interesting he's taking off about the same age that Lindblom emerged.
Is there something in Swedish genes that kicks in around 20 years old?

I mean, Lindblom was still quite a bit better at the same age, and it was a more "natural and linear" progression:

Lindblom:
Draft+1: 0.22 GPG, 0.41 PPG
Draft+2: 0.17 GPG, 0.52 PPG
Draft+3: 0.42 GPG, 0.90 PPG

Lycksell:
Draft+1: 0.19 GPG, 0.27 PPG
Draft+2: 0.10 GPG, 0,24 PPG
Draft+3: 0.27 GPG, 0.64 PPG

But a lot of it is the league. It is damn hard to play as a teenager even if skilled, especially if not physically mature. Even vs say NCAA playing vs a lot better players, who are older, more mature. There are ~30-35 SHL regulars under age 21 most years.

Playing with so much swagger. Really fun to see.
What I liked about him in the summer series was his breakaway speed. Flyers have lots of fwd prospects but not many with really top end speed to go with everything else.

I forget the scouting report. What was the knock on him that made him drop? I know lindblom was graded out really high until the narrative of him having poor skating dropped him.

He didn’t drop. He was a total unknown, who wasn’t even ranked by major consensus sites. Like not even top 500.

He spent half the year in J18s over in Sweden, then put up mediocre numbers in a depth role for his J20s team. Almost every drafted player is putting up respectable numbers in J20s at the least, if not the pro leagues. J18s don’t even really get scouted. He was also barely eligible for the 2017 draft. It was a real “Who?!” type pick where the Flyers believed he had hidden upside as he matured.

I think it was a combo of him being really physically immature at the time and the linkoping jr team being stacked... but yeh, a guy with his draft year profile almost never does what he has already gone on to do. Great scouting seemingly...
