Speaking of which, are there any names circulating around the league as potentially fitting that 2nd like RW criteria? What's the rumor mill saying these days?

Stewart and Kassian come to mind. They're both big bodies and righthanded. They can really help us out in terms of adding size. Between the 2, I'd much rather prefer Kassian. He's younger, under a very reasonable contract next year and costs a lot less to acquire. Stewart will end up in Boston or Chicago given that they have cap space now. Watch them pay less for Stewart than we paid for Winnik. LOL!

Kassian can probably be had for one of our young Ds (eg. Dumoulin for example) given their injury situation on D. One can only pray for Bortuzzo or Dumoulin being enough. Fingers crossed.

Tough to see us doing anything. We aren't going to move that second rounder as it is our only high pick left for the draft. Not sure what roster player we'd move out either. Kunitz isn't going anywhere, nor Sutter.

Maybe Bennett, but he doesn't make much salary.

Every realistic person viewed this season as a big transition season for this club. We had so much deadweight to shed in our roster, and so many holes to fill, it was impossible for JR & Co. to accomplish all of it in the span of 8 months. That being said, I'm blown away how anyone could take umbrage with the moves that have been made so far. We landed both of Sid's wingers, for now and probably the entirety of his career here. We completely overhauled and reinvented the bottom six, and we're still likely to trade for Geno's big time winger sometime before October. We got faster, we got tougher to play against, we got a Hell of a lot more effective offensively. Letang's re-emerged as a legitimate top flight defenseman in the league (which I didn't think he would, so time to eat crow). Despres has taken significant steps forward in terms of his development, especially considering he's basically a rookie--I don't really consider time under Bylsma legitimate development. Fleury's having a career year, and seems to have finally stabilized mentally. And Sid and Geno are both neck and neck for the Art Ross despite injuries, and each having what is considered for them pretty lackluster years.

Things are trending in a good direction. We're not perfect... ****, we're far from it. But I like the way this team is headed and where we're at right now personnel-wise infinitely more than in previous years.

We have some deadweight to shed in Sutter, Kunitz, and Scuderi. We have one more big time winger to grab for Geno. And we have to put the finishing touches on the bottom six. If we can manage that before next October, I think we'll be the most dominant team in the league. Oh, and somehow managing to lure Babcock out of Detroit wouldn't hurt either. I don't think MJ's completely incompetent the way Bylsma was, but he's just not the type of guy we need. We need a coach who is gonna light a fire under the ***** of our guys when they need it, and a guy who is going to hold people accountable--rookie or ten-year vet. We need a guy with a presence who demands the respect and attention of the players, and MJ is almost as far from that guy as you can get.

TL;DR-- We're getting close to being the team we all had been hoping for since the back-to-back Cup runs. JR & Co. just need to stay the course and continue to retool and build. I'm happy, but I'm not satisfied.

Anyone else out there like Horton with a big uninsured contract that we could acquire for Scuderi?

So many bad contracts. Aside from Kunitz and Scuderi, the $6.2 million for Spaling and Erhoff is completely ridiculous. Erhoff is nowhere near worth it, and I have to make an actual effort to notice Spaling in just about every game.

Glencross for Dumoulin and Adams. Makes too much sense for both teams though. Flames can bury Adams in the AHL or as a extra forward the rest of the year. Though with the possibility that Gio is out then Treliving may be forced to get a defensemen.

The only problem is, pretty much all of our revamped bottom 6 are UFA's after this year. And the two that aren't (Sutter and Spaling) are the two I want gone the most (aside from Adams)

I'd hate to lose Dumoulin for a rental, because I don't see Glencross signing a cheap deal.

Plus, as it stands...

Perron, Crosby, Hornqvist
Kunitz, Malkin, Comeau/Bennett
Spaling, Sutter, Bennett/Comeau
Winnik, Lapierre, Downie

I would roll with that, I think tinkering with the forwards should be over with now, time trim the fat on this team and getting rid of Sill was a good step, next is to dump Adams for a conditional pick.

I mean even the defense...

Martin, Letang
Ehrhoff, Despres
Scuderi, Pouliot

I don't mind that at all, I think JR should be done bringing people in, he should be shipping people out, like Adams as mentioned, he just needs to go, maybe even moving Bortuzzo or keeping him as a 7th wouldn't hurt, for grit in the playoffs if he can refrain from playing like a wet diaper.

This team needs to gel now.

Sutter doesn't.

But yeah, back to the Penguins fanbase hatred of Spaling as regularly scheduled programming.

If the Pens walk away from Ehrhoff and Martin, close to 9m+ but it depends on who they keep out of Downie, Comeau, Lapierre, and Winnik. Not including RFA's.

But if all the UFA's walk...

That's: Comeau, Downie, Winnik, Ehrhoff, Martin, Adams, Lapierre, and Greiss.

Total: 13.488m
Not included: Dupuis' LTIR if he's still not ready to go.

Out of Regulars...

Spaling doesn't do enough to be loved or hated. Like I said, he's barely noticeable 90% of the time. That being said, I'd be in favor of sending Sutter out and having Spaling center a line.

Bowman says he's close to making a trade. So that'll be Vermette or Glencross or Cole no doubt. Maybe Atkinson or Stewart.

Boston has been awfully quiet, strangely.

It would hurt but Dumoulin is most likely never going to see regular playing time with the Pens. Glencross does add another physical element that can score to the team as well. He can also either wing which is a bonus.

How isn't he noticeable? Because he's not throwing bone crunching hits? Being flashy with the puck? The guy does a lot of good things that aren't "sexy" to the fans because it's not something they get excited about.

Spaling is the intelligent hockey fan's fav.

He's the type of player you want gone, then you see him on another team and he does well and you blame that team having a better coaching staff, when really, he's been that good and people are just morons.

Did you see the line-up? Unless you are moving out Kunitz, what's the point? It's a trade for the sake of making a trade and Glencross can look at the line-up and see as much, I would veto the Pens as well.

It was either Winnik or Glencross. They chose Winnik, I'm fine with that. At this point, Adams is done after this year anyway, I would just like it expedited like everyone else. The only real concern now is how the line-up shakes out and who fits with whom on defense, if Scuderi is ok, if JR wants to add a veteran defenseman or gives a vote of confidence to the kids to play.

Throwing away Dumoulin for a winger that isn't overly needed would be a Shero move. Bad asset management. Him + another could bring back more at the draft.

I agree with you, however I dont see the team for whatever reason keeping Bennett in the lineup. They dont trust him and I dont see him being a full time solution to either the 2nd or 3rd line until they do.

He's not noticeable because he doesn't score, doesn't hit, doesn't agitate, and doesn't do much of anything else. He may be decent defensively, and has value because he can play different positions, but that hardly qualifies him as 'good'.

What the hell exactly is it that makes him a favorite of 'intelligent' fans?
