That would make a lot of sense actually. LHD, more defensive minded, 1 year contract.

Yeah, I've had a few Vegas people mention it as a very distinct possibility, even before Gallant. With the understanding that if the hiring went through, it was clearly something to keep an eye on.

If it's absolutely necessary, we could probably convince Tim Gettinger to get in two fights and he would probably score more.

Ryan Reaves is a bad player. He's inept offensively. He's not great defensively. He takes more penalties than he draws. Throughout his career when he's on the ice his team does not score at all. He provides zero on special teams. For a fourth liner you'd like at least to get a PK contribution to take the load off the top guys and he has played about 4 minutes on the PK in the last 10 years. He's not a center who can help on faceoffs. He's not a shootout specialist. I would not sign him for league minimum if he were a FA.

Yeah, but he knelt behind the net at practice one time and made goal horn sounds.

Gotta consider everything, IMO.

What's the potential cost there?

To the extent that Reaves works, I think it's because he's part of the leadership group in Vegas and they all appreciate him. It was an awkward fit in Pittsburgh. Some guys really benefit from right time, right place, right personalities. It's the same reason I wasn't that psyched for us bringing Brind'Amour over here as the coach, because he's Mr. Carolina Hurricanes and he hasn't actually done a lot to distinguish himself aside from that.

Reaves the perfect example of paying for things and stuff.

What's he going to do that Kevin Rooney doesn't?

He fights three times a year and the only meaningful "tough guy" in our division wouldn't look in his direction because that guy is a 1st liner.

He's literally incapable of penalty killing.

Reaves will land harder hits but Rooney is a more effective *checker* AINEC.

Reaves can play 9 minutes and not be Brett Howden. That's fine and dandy. But what are you actually paying the pricetag for?

We cut out the middle man by getting the guy who created that entire culture in Vegas.

I just dont know if we can afford to keep him
They have the room and space to do so easily if they trade someone like Strome. The only caveat is that they'd most likely either have to trade him or Kreider in a few years, which I don't think would be an issue.

I mean they do, but they can't give him a NMC or even a NTC if they do

Not gonna like McNabb seems like a great fit for Lundkvist too, and he's physical IIRC from watching Vegas games.

The one appeal that Reaves has for me is being a pacifier for folks whose post history is 85% "this team is too soft."

And I'm serious. I'm willing to give up a 4th line spot to make HF less insufferable.

I think they have to play more north/south because most of our forwards aren't "small". They're over 6 ft and 200 lbs and most will continue growing, hopefully Gallant can instill that in them

Nosek is a UFA who would make some sense
Now you're f***ing talking. Love me some Tomas Nosek.

My hard price cap still applies if we plan on him being a 4th liner but I think he could reasonably play more with the right linemates.

I can almost guarantee that 90% of those complaints will stop once they see us have an active forecheck again and more structured neutral zone scheme. We saw some of it from them at the end of last year before the shutdown, but it was non-existent this season.

The McNabb idea is interesting because Vegas doesn't have to worry about the expansion draft, and McNabb is an easy improvement on who to protect over someone like Hajek. I wonder if we can do a swap of McNabb for Hajek with us upgrading on a pick either this year or next. Hajek might improve out West, but I think his time here is done.

It will get better for some, yes. Then there are others who want hockey to be wrestling. They should just watch wrestling. Those Japanese fellas hit each other for realsies.

I'm here for McNabb. He's a #vet who's actually serviceable and I would kill to get Hajek it of the lineup.

Nosek and Goodrow on the 4th line with Rooney would be one of the best 4th lines in the league. Also 3 prime PKers. All 3 can play center as well. Not sure what that would cost but Rooney makes nothing so if they slightly overpay for the other two it may even out. They’re probably fine if the average salary on their 4th line is about $1.5-1.7m
